I've always read about a potential sourceport based on the Doom 3 engine, but long story short, it's damn-near impossible, due to the way it was created. It'd look pretty damn nice, though.

GZDoom has always kind of been on-par with GoldSource imo.
If anything, Brutal Doom looks better than GoldSource.

People have remade complete maps from the Half-Life campaign in ZDoom as far back as like 2009. You can do some crazy shit in a modern source-port of Doom. If you haven't, I would strongly suggest you download the latest version of ZDoom/GZDoom and play some modern mods. Stuff like Reelism and DemonSteele is fun as fuck.
