The new DLC, dubbed the Hail to the Icons Parody Pack, will feature 4 new multiplayer maps and 3 new multiplayer game modes. So for all those of you (if there are any) who crave more Duke inspired shootouts, read on!
The four maps look like they will offer some variety and are clearly designed to poke fun at other first person shoots. The first map, Call of Duke, follows the usual level design aspects of a Call of Duty Modern Warfare map, with combat taking place in a wrecked urban Warzone.
The second map, Inferno, takes us to some glorified blazing hell pit in the vein of Doom, with cheesy 16 bit graphics. Next up is 2Forts1Bridge, a parody of the most popular Team Fortress 2 multiplayer map and lastly there is Sandpit, where shrunken Dukes blast around with Sticky Bombs and other nonsense.
The three new modes include Freeze Tag, Hot Potato and Hail to the King. Hot Potato involves hoarding as many babes on a given map as possible, and Hail to the king looks like it will be a free for all king of the Hill style mode.
The final addition to the pack will the the addition of silly hats for Duke to wear, kind of like all those hats for Team Fortress 2 that Valve offers everyone who orders their games. Will they matter at all? No, not really, but at least they’re free and silly.
The pack goes for 800 Microsoft points, and will be offered free to the First Access Club members who registered during the pre-order period.
Speaking of Valve, in other news Free Portal 2 DLC is coming to Xbox 360 and also be sure to check out this strange new Dreamcast like Controller coming to Xbox 360.
Is the multiplayer fun in DNF?
I don't think DNF is in the position to parody other games.
This would be good news if the multiplayer wasn't utter crap, it has more explosion spam than Michael Bay's wet dreams.
I played the multiplayer. It wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't anything new. It was in the same vein as the Timesplitters games.
I liked the multiplayer you could earn upgrades for your mansion and shit.
In my opinion the multi-player was underrated, I played it a lot and enjoyed it.
Maybe I'll get this game during the Winter Sale. From what I've heard it's not worth full price.

Duke can do whatever the hell he wants.
I don't think DNF is in the position to parody other games.
That's what Duke was pretty much all about way back then. Well not exactly ALL about it but 3D did have quite a few jabs at other games and pop culture back then.
Damn though, I should have stopped being lazy and actually used my first access code. Totally forgot about it.
Jesus Christ!!!!!

It actually is.

The price has gone down a lot since launch, but I can wait untill it goes on sale for $10 or so.
I forgot this game existed
Duke can do whatever the hell he wants.
Except make a decent modern game it seems like
As if Duke hasn't sunken low enough...
They need to make another one, but REALLY try this time. I want a good new Duke Nukem game.
Do you really think Gearbox would just toss the Duke Nukem franchise aside right after they got hold of it? One game isn't going to bring the whole thing down, especially since Gearbox has very little to do with DNF's poor quality.
glad they poke fun at hats
Meanwhile DNF copies so many other common modern shooter trends.
What a hypocrite.
Doom and Duke Nukem is what made FPS today tbh. If anything other games are ripping them off.
Could've sworn reading about this a while back.
Never played the game, and completely forgot it even existed. Judging from the reviews, it seems I'm not missing out on much.
I'll probably give the older games a try.

This is what annoyed me about people who hated this game, they compared to Call of Duty like IGN who did the same as well.

it sounds me more like 2 girls 1 cup

that's the joke
I had to laugh when this was released because everyone was praising it saying it had excellent graphics and fun game play. I guess they were wrong?

duke 3D is one of my favorite FPS games of all time, but i don't think it had THAT profound of an effect on the industry. quake came 6 months after it, so duke 3D was actually a bit ignored at the time. i'd definitely hold duke 3D as an example of doom-style games in their perfect form, though.
DNF would've been much better with the mighty kick, even better if you could kick with both legs.
