• Help me shape IDF's Combat Camera unit

Hey guys, what's up? Small introduction for those of you who don't know me. I'm Daniel, Sergeant in the IDF's Combat Camera unit. Got drafted a year and a half ago and ever since my photography (And Flickr, for those who noticed) has changed completely. My passion for photography is being occupied right now by the fact that I'm a military photographer. The unit I'm in is called Combat Camera. Just like the name, we're trained operatives who carry both firearms and cameras in order to capture the view from the battlefield, uncover the enemy's propoganda and expose the inhumane and illegal means the other side is using in order to win this conflict. We're first stationed under a SpecOp unit in order to gain superior training and military expertise so that we may join any Air, Land or Sea unit the IDF wants us to join. After our combat training is over, we're going through a journalistic course combined with photography aspects to broaden our minds and view. The point eventually is to bring the truth from the battlefield. Return Brothers'') and the latest gaza chapter (''Protective Edge'') the unit has been recognized by the president, Prime Minister and UN's Secerary Ban-Ki Mon himself as one of the most influental forces the IDF has to offer in order to win the battle against terror. I'm looking for any kind of information, written or visual, to present to the new trainees so that they may be better than what we've been. I know this community is really photography dedicated, both video and still, and I know you'all got some inspirational stuff to show me, books to read, movies to see or really anything that you've got to offer. I really hope that you'll help me perfect the thing that I'm really dedicated to. I'm all ears My Flickr for all the curious guys - https://www.flickr.com/photos/62383197@N07/
A good movie to watch would be Thin Red Line. It's just about war, but it's filmed incredibly well and it's a more philosophical view. It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I think it had very interesting filmography which would translate pretty well to war photography IMO Other than that I'm afraid I can't be of much help, though I do wish you the best and please stay safe
Ever think about publishing a photo book after your draft?
I'm actually working on a book concept, something like humans of New York, but with soldiers I meet along the way and the stories they tell. And yeah, Thin red line is a good advice.
