(CNN)Monday was a historic day in the military. For the first time, a woman has graduated from the Army's storied Ranger course in Fort Benning, Georgia. Two women, in fact.
There will be a graduation ceremony later in the week. But the Pentagon isn't expected to make final decisions about exactly what combat roles women will be allowed to fulfill until later this year.
In the meantime, here is the press release from the Pentagon that outlines what's in the course:
Media Colleagues,
Ranger School update: 94 men and two women complete the Swamp Phase and earn the Ranger Tab

Nineteen women and 381 men started Ranger Class 06-15 on April 20, 2015. Eight women successfully completed RAP week; however, all were recycled into Ranger Class 07-15 as Darby inserts for a second attempt at patrolling.
To our foreign FPers, Ranger School is one of the toughest leadership courses the US Army offers. Ranger training essentially puts your body into a fight-or-flight mode by starving you, sleep-depriving you and usually you get treated like a dog, the standard is that you still have to be able to lead and make critical decisions in a combat environment (a shitty, combat environment, i.e. dense woods and swamps) while you are in the worst possible shape. Many Army units, especially combat ones such as Infantry and Field Artillery try to push their NCO's and Officers into Ranger School because they want their leaders to have that form of training, especially in infantry units, officers that have not 'tabbed up' are essentially treated like sub-humans. Tons upon tons of soldiers get recycled and there is also a ruthless peer-evaluation system that forces soldiers to 'peer out' one of their own and they end up being recycled.
Awesome!
What an honor to be Ranger. Props to all of them
Rangers are no joke.

Yup. Pretty fucking badass. They were one of the best in WW2.
They also fucked everyone's shit up in Mogadishu when the gloves came off

Good.

ranger course =/= ranger regiment
there is quite a significantly large distinction im told
The title 'Ranger' is only given to those who are serving in a Ranger Regiment, I.E. the 75th Regiment like the unit patch in the OP.
The Ranger tab above the patch simply shows that they have completed Ranger School.
Good on them, either way. That shit ain't easy.
Next, female Spetsnaz and female SAS, please?
/k/ is going to have a fit. They've been saying no woman will pass this for about 6 months while ignoring the fact that Canada has women in all levels of infantry for 20 years.

Clearly Canada's standards are way below the USA's :hammered:

I dunno eh, Canada is serious business eh?

as long as there is no "no women allowed" rule, it should be possible if they can pass the necessary tests.

Considering the SAS's habit of disguising themselves, I wouldn't be surprised if there's been some women in there for decades and they've just been disguising themselves as men.
Surely next year they can do better than 2.
