We don't know the whole backstory, we don't know if his family members/friends noticed him acting really strange, and then how would they know that he had such an issue? And his blog, honestly, is barely weirder than all of the other shit on the internet, so that can't be a good judge either.

It might not have helped much, his family might not have ever noticed it, but it would give the person suffering the problems a chance to realise themselves that there is a problem. It's not so much the mental healthcare system is bad, but it's more that society still sees mental issues as bad and unwanted. If it weren't considered taboo to want to talk to someone about one's issues, this man and millions like him could still be alive.
