Fucking patent trolls. The worst part is that these guys seem delusional instead of just plain money-hungry, since they are saying that the arrows should only ever be used for ""archery tag""
It makes me fucking sick that money has a play in law more than facts and morals.......fuck the patent system.
One of the backers brings up a good point - If this is as big an issue he says it is, hasn't he reached out to the other bigger distributors he speaks of to see if they can provide any support considering it would most definitely affect them too down the line? Also I'm no super expert on US patent law, but how can you patent a design of something that is already on sale in the country?
Incredibly deceptive. LARP archery won't die if he loses his case. His ability to profit from it will tho.
Incredibly deceptive. LARP archery won't die if he loses his case. His ability to profit from it will tho.
Maybe, but it's still a lot more bullshit that some company wants to patent shit people were already selling beforehand.
Incredibly deceptive. LARP archery won't die if he loses his case. His ability to profit from it will tho.
prior artwork means shit these days apparently, what with reaction format videos being patent-able, and foam covered arrows also being patent-able
Statement Regarding larping.org and the actions of Jordan Gwyther Global Archery Products, Inc. ("Global Archery") is aware of the "gofundme" page and YouTube video that has been posted by Jordan Gwyther. Global Archery is not attempting to ruin the LARPing community or in any way inhibit LARP activities. Global Archery has a long history in supporting the LARP community. Global Archery only has a specific issue with Mr. Gwyther's actions which include trademark infringement, false advertising, tortious interference with contractual relationships, and so forth. Mr. Gwyther's sole focus on Global Archery's patents without discussing the other issues in the case is misleading. Global Archery, at the advice of counsel, declines to further comment on pending litigation. https://search.rpxcorp.com/litigation_documents/11569215
Uhh, how can the Archery Tag guys possibly keep people from using their arrows for LARP? That is both absurd and counter-productive.
I wonder why he doesn't seek help other larger distributors he mentions?
I wonder why he doesn't seek help other larger distributors he mentions?
Probably because they aren't infringing on copyright so they have no conflict with Global Archery, unlike the guy in the video.
What a shitty move... It sucks that court battles are so often won by throwing money around
