seeing sean on national primetime television is so cool, good for those guys. also neat that colbert is giving attention to it like this
I like this because you know 100% this was Stephens push to have them on the show.
You know for sure that no Late Night crew is going to let a Video Game programmer on a show about talking.
Stephen seems very into this game.
No Man's Sky seems like one of those games that's a thousand miles wide, ten feet deep.
I'd love for them to prove me wrong, though.

It's very easy to wow people with this game, so it fits well in this kinda show.

Just don't overestimate the content, and you'll be fine. Play SpaceEngine, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what you're getting.
MINE!
All I want them to show, that they havent explained; is what I can do with those space stations/frigates/fleets that randomly pop up outside of planets.
If you can trade/board those stations I think this game will get a lot more interesting.

Late night shows seem to have video games on quite often these days (speaking as a Brit who only sees occasional clips of these shows on YouTube). Definitely some different ways of doing it though. Kimmel recently had this bit making fun of the lame nerds who watch lets play videos

While Colbert had Pewdiepie on as a guest and had a regular discussion with him

Actually looks like Kimmel had Markiplier on after that other video, idek

Fuck, the Markiplier video constantly cuts between two different cameras shooting at 30 and 60fps and it's really jarring
It's a marketing tactic because they saw the video of kimmel making fun of gamers got like ten times as much views than their usual bits of celeberties talking about their lifes.
Watch now as colbert will be crowned as king of late night hosts by tumblr

Well, Colbert and Conan are pretty much the only ones who respect video games enough not to degrade them and are actually funny so they already won that fight
When I first heard about NMS I was pretty excited about it, but the main focus being on exploration (And what looks like lackluster and seemingly pointless combat) has kinda turned me off. I don't doubt that a lot of people are in to that sort of thing, but a procedurally-generated universe with seamless transitions between space and atmospheric flight is something none but the most obscure of space games have done, and with nowhere near the level of success. What I see in NMS is the perfect platform for a grand-strategy/4x (6x?), a new Freelancer or Freespace style game, even a (relatively) small scale FPS/Space-shooter hybrid involving just a few planets, or even a combination of all of these.
All this said though, I have max respect for the devs having made something like this, and making it marketable. I just think whatever enjoyment I personally would get out of it wouldn't last beyond a couple days.
No Mans Sky looks like a blast if you tone your hype meter down.
It's not going to be a triple AAA action space combat game, I'm sure it might have a odd moment of that or something, but it's really just going to be about the process of discovery in a universe that's just unimaginably vast.
For that alone, i'm just excited to view other worlds that are convincingly random

Yeah, I'd probably grab it for a fiver at the most just to have a fun thing to mess with every now and then. It'd be cool to have Journey-type moments like running out of fuel and sending out a distress signal for another player to pick up on, or sheltering out in a cave in a storm or just running into another player every now and then to adventure with
It looks like they've done a lot of work polishing the game since I saw it last. Previously there was a pretty bad pop in as shit was generating, but that's been cut down massively if the video is anything to go by.
I'm really glad that it's going well for the team making this. Sean seems really humble and nice every time I see him, and I'm glad that their studio getting flooded hasn't seemed to ruin this games development as it seems to be something really interesting and unique.
There was always this vagueness about other players.
He's been very reluctant to say whether or not you can actually see/interact with other players, but in this video he did straight up say that other players can see your character model, which is surprising.

They have explained it.
The stations are just showrooms for purchasing more ships. The fleets however you can attack or help them, and you will get reputation among all the several factions that cover various regions of the galaxy depending on if you attack/help them. You can also gain wingmen that will fly in formation with you.

He said like last year would will be able to see eachother, he just wants to emphasise how rare it could be.

Aye, things are looking way more snazzy and performant. That teleportation gun really gets me going. Literally looked like a jumpcut from a trailer that's how quickly the other planet loaded in.
Green trees and red grass? That's...not really how it works.
And cats usually don't dress up like the one in your avatar
It's a science fiction game :v:
what is autumn
That's, uh, red trees and still green/yellowish grass.
I don't think I've seen red grass before.
Call me a killjoy but its like Will Wright, Todd Howard, and Peter Molyneux had a child.

He hasn't made a single empty promise, he chooses his words extremely carefully. The game will be just like advertised, but don't expect much more.
The only people who are going to be disappointed are those who make wild assumptions.

confirmation bias much?

Conan is straight up marketing campaigns though, just dont forget that. All of those Conan gamer things are paid for by the companies.

It looks like Kimmel gives so little of a fuck.
Yes, but it's a science fiction game. The colors of plants tend to group along certain wavelengths, leading to a homogeneous color for plants across an entire planet. This would hold true even on other planets and even if the plants had totally different mechanisms for using solar energy. It's universally true.
Universally true that red grass and green leaves are impossible? Where's your evidence for that? What other chains of evolution do you have to compare to that tells us that they have to follow the same rules as the life on Earth? Especially consider that this game has it's own elements, ones that mock our own, but also ones that don't exist at all. Either way, you need to lighten up, because the art direction is "sci-fi novel cover". You're going to be really disappointed when you get near the center of the galaxy then, where stuff apparently tends to be more abstract and brain-tickling.
Sci-fi novel covers generally don't break this rule. In fact, if you google "sci-fi landscape" you'll find pictures that break the rule are pretty scarce.
Really

Like I said, it's not like you have other chains of evolution to compare to, so there are no real set rules of how life develops. Especially in a make believe universe.
Assumptions get you nowhere, but either way you're being way to much of a stickler. The game has an art direction.
I wouldn't be surprised if we do see massive battles and things of the sort eventually. I'm sure certain planets and star systems will become hubs for certain groups, and centers of trade with cities and things of that sort?
It's not a biological rule, it's literally down to the most essential laws of physics related to electromagnetism. Even if you're building a machine that absorbs EM radiation, it's still most efficient to obey this rule.
This image doesn't even demonstrate your point because this is actually a viable palette.
The point is the problem you are calling out is fun-police levels of nitpicking. All I'm saying.
Green trees and red grass? That's...not really how it works.
In the 5th grade I had to write a fictional story so I wrote one about exploring other planets and colored pictures of the landscapes and stuff and they had red grass. My teacher gave me a C and wrote a note telling me to "write about something more believable next time", so I guess if I ever get a chance to do that again I'll do green grass instead.

I had a teacher once complain about me coloring a pond brown and green because it didn't look like clean water, my reply was "but that's how ponds look, you can see the mud water if not then the bottom"
