Much as Joss Whedon is doing at Marvel, Fox has hired Mark Millar – the popular Marvel writer of stories like The Ultimates, Civil War, Old Man Logan and creator of Kick-Ass, Wanted and Nemesis – as a “creative consultant”. Millar will specifically be working on “developing new avenues for its X-Men and Fantastic Four tentpoles.” The Wolverine is already in production under the direction of James Mangold, and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn is gearing up to start production on X-Men: Days of Future Past early next year. Fox is also developing a reboot of Fantastic Four with Chronicle director Josh Trank, so he’ll be consulting on the development of that film as well. President of Fox movie production Emma Watts said of the appointment: "In addition to his groundbreaking Marvel work, he is simply one of the most original voices in comics today, and will be an invaluable resource to us and to our filmmakers as we look for fresh opportunities to innovate within our shared Marvel universe." The Civil War guy? Ehhh, I dunno. This is still my favorite thing to come out of all the stuff touched by that arc.
But the Fox movies suck. And Days of a Future Past is awful.
I don't usually read or follow comic books because welp, uh, the majority of the stories and their dialogue sound like they were written by really geeky nerds (surprise huh?) and just generally have pretty mediocre writing, but... The Ultimates was really good. Easily up there with some of the most notable graphic novels.
Cool, he should convince them to buy the Unfunnies from Avatar Press and integrate them into the MMU. [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] Emone would just be rolling in for that shit.
