• How much would a car (used?) cost that goes far on the galon/liter

Simple. I'm thinking of purchasing a car. I come to realize that using public transport is just way to expensive and annoying in the long run. My budget is 5900dollars. I'd prefer if I could get away with a 4900-deal. Ok, so, I'm the average guy who works everyday and tries to save up money for trips and etc. I have absolutely no experience in cars, and I know, asking Facepunch is probably not the best place, but I'm not expecting to purchase this car this year. I'll see how things turn out, cars only go cheaper, not more expensive, yeah? The most important factor for me is that it can drive long on the galon/liter. With oil prices rising, I just can't afford (and don't want to) buy those fuel-guzzling cars. Second factor is that it's comfortable and not very noisy. I'm not gonna drive more than 93-100mph, so it doesn't have to be fast. (around 150kmph) Hope I can atleast a few helpful replies.
Serious answer: Ice cream vans. Those things can be surpisingly cheap, spacious and get upwards of 60mpg I hear; plus you can crank out the beats.

And all the screaming kiddies thinking you're the real icecream man only to have their dreams shattered as you carry on driving.
You probably want a small hatchback, 3 door diesel, best for high MPG and not so fast driving. I'm can't really suggest particular cars for the US, since i live in the UK, but popular cars here are cars like Vauxhalls or Fords. More than that, some petrol engines like a Toyota Avensis or Corolla are pretty good MPG wise. Essentially though, the car doesn't matter (to a degree) it is how you drive it. Top Gear, in the UK, drove a BMW M3 and a Toyota Prius round a track, and the M3 got better MPG, so essentially, when you get your car, keep the revs low, and don't nail your foot to the ground and you will be fine.
Thank you, however, is 5900 dollars enough?
Any Japanese car will last you a long time and be good to you.
Thank you, however, is 5900 dollars enough?
Depends if your buying new or used. You just have to find a car that suits what you need, and look around for deals or second hand ones. I'm sure there are enough cars on sale around your area for you to find the right kind.
55mph I heard is the average speed for maximum fuel efficiency.
Yep, my mom drives at 56/58mph on dual carriageways and Motorways (freeways), it gives the best fuel efficiency versus speed.
SonofBrim;17435982']Or as they are pulled screaming into your van :chef:
Why did i burst out laughing?
Oh, yeah, it's gonna be used. I'm gonna have to get a car engineer to check the car out before I purchase it. Anyone got suggestions? I found Lupo to be very good through google
Don't buy an old ice-cream van, people will think you're Borat.
Make sure to get them to show you the Carfax. Remember the commercials :)
Why hasn't anyone said a cheap 2k chinese car. I hear they run pretty well and good on the gas too.
Why hasn't anyone said a cheap 2k chinese car. I hear they run pretty well and good on the gas too.
Because if you slam the door too hard, the exhaust will fall off. (best case scenario)
You can't buy gas in many places here I'm afraid
You can definitely get a used car for that much that doesn't guzzle a lot.
FIRST What country do you live in before you get confused by the US and UK crowd
Sweden, sir. We don't use gas.
I have a 97' Corolla. Bought it for 1700 USD. I get 34MPG and it runs great. The only downside about it is that it has 190,000 miles on it :(. For your budget you could get a newer model Corolla with hardly any miles on it, and Toyotas run for a really long time.
Get the ice cream, if you take off all the stickers, and give it a paintjob, maybe put a bit of money into it, you can totally hang out with your friends in it and fuck chicks if you put a matress in the back. [editline]10:39PM[/editline] Be a hippy
this thread is about what you can do if you gut out an ice cream truck would make a good ballistics platform
there was a pimp my ride episode where they pimped an ice cream truck.
Get a Honda like a used civic or accord, maybe even a Hyundai Accent. I have a similar vehicle, it is great on petrol.
Slightly on topic, but do Americans use MPH or KMH?
Slightly on topic, but do Americans use MPH or KMH?
MPH. What does UK use?
Get a (Early 1990's) Toyota MR2, Ford Mustang, or Mazda RX-7, 200+km/h baby Also, for ultimate fuel economy, get this
mph. What does uk use?
kmh
Get something along the line of a Toyota starlet, or corolla hatchback.
