It's funny when you think about it. A speedrunner on games like these, especially legit ones rather than the more fun-oriented tool-assisted, probably spends more time intricately learning a game inside and out, frame-by-frame, than any normal player would ever dedicate doing the same to most of their entire libraries.
jesus christ those sound effects are so nostalgic
Ah. This brings back good ol' memories.
THSP2 fo lyfe
Why didn't he do the last map?
He didn't do the cruise ship though, so I wouldn't necessarily call it beating the game. Still, it was ridiculously impressive. THPS3 was my childhood, and introduced me to much of the music I'm a fan of today.

The goal is just to medal the 3 competitions.

FAQ:
Q: Why not complete everything? You skipped a lot of goals and didn't even go to Cruise Ship.
A: It makes for an interesting and challenging route. This category is kind of grandfathered into existence by THPS1&2 going into the credits after getting 3 medals in those games. Besides, there's nothing stopping you or anyone else from doing an All Goals/All Golds or a 100% run.
There are different kind of runs, depending on the goals. Super Metroid runs for example come in a lot of different varieties.
You got the 100% items speedrun

The 14% items speedrun, which is considered the lowest amount of collected items to be able to beat the game

And trying to beat the game as fast as possible of course. Then there are tool assisted, running on emulator with savestates, and plain oldschool snes speedruns.
And then there are wacky ones like the one with reversed boss orders.

Which is a pain in the ass when you try to fight Ridley while you burn your ass without Varia Suit.

TAS:es test the limits of games, non assisted speedruns test the man's limits.
Welp, now I need to go listen to Alien Ant Farm again.
I love speedruns. Besides the part where you feel absolutely shit at games.
Nah man, The CKY song was better.
I agree 96 Quite Bitter Beings was better.
I agree 96 Quite Bitter Beings was better.
Yeah man, that game kinda got me into CKY, they have some pretty mad tracks like; Inhuman creation station and knee deep.
I always love watching speed run videos, but I really dont get why people even bother.
To each his own I guess

You could say that about every hobby ever invented. Juggling? Solving rubiks cube? Videogames?
Talking about the video quality, not the music btw
oh
in that case yeah you're right :v:

They do it because people like you love watching them.
Also for bragging rights.
THPS3 has blitzkrieg pop
you automatically loose against that
Wow and I thought I was badass for unlocking every single tape for every character in THP1 but this is a whole new level.
Man this game was great and it even had music about funky smelly people.

holy shit
I remember playing this game so much when i was a kid, but I barely remember what the game looked like with the top notch graphics of that time.

It always amazes me how nice the graphics are in Super Metroid and how bad the only spoken line of dialogue is.
