Which is pretty much what the south was trying to do and actually kind of did, all but in name, see the black codes. Why even would the racist north want blacks to rule the south The KKK was supporting that effort to strip blacks of basic liberties, and used violence and threats against blacks and republicans to do so.

"perceived" it is worth noting that the original klan didn't advocate lynching and such, but there was little organization beyond the local level so the top brass had little if any ability to do anything about it

And the result was horrible.

They started playing pranks on incoming republicans which quickly escalated to harassing and lynching freed slaves after the imposement of former General Nathan Bedford Forrest as Grand Wizard. Surprisingly Forrest would go on to disavow the Klan and become and advocate for racial intergrationism, a very radical ideal at the time. But to say the Klan didn't behold themselves to white supremacy from their beginning would be delusional.
