Around 20 have been processed, with more expected later as part of an amnesty passed by Russia's parliament. Twenty-eight activists and two freelance journalists were arrested in September as they staged a protest at a Russian offshore oil rig. The case against one of the group, Anthony Perrett, was closed on Tuesday.
They did technically commit piracy right? "the act of boarding any vessel with an intent to commit theft or any other crime" and the crime was trespassing. Are rigs a type of vessel?
"They must've done this for some evil Russian purpose clearly"
"They must've done this for some evil Russian purpose clearly"
it's obvious they've been doing this crap lately as a PR stunt for the sochi olympics. but i mean, i'm glad they've been set free
"They must've done this for some evil Russian purpose clearly"
Armed soldiers arrested them without much of a warrant and the judgement went fast for em. Clearly now the judges had a change of heart just because it's Christmas. It's a PR move after so much shit leaked in the world about what's going on in Russia.
Don't pussy out Russia. Let them hang like defectors.
That's a shame the charges were dropped against the hippies. :(
They did technically commit piracy right? "the act of boarding any vessel with an intent to commit theft or any other crime" and the crime was trespassing. Are rigs a type of vessel?
Pretty sure the legal definition of trespass to property doesn't apply on a ship.
Pretty sure the legal definition of trespass to property doesn't apply on a ship.
Pretty sure intending to disrupt oil rig operations constitutes criminal intent in some way though.
Pretty sure intending to disrupt oil rig operations constitutes criminal intent though.
it was part of a political statement. and russia seized a ship in international waters at gunpoint and essentially held the crew hostage, and that's a much worse crime imo than boarding an oil rig.
