Nigel Farage has failed to turn up to his mini street carnival in Croydon after rows broke out in the street over whether his party was racist and one of his local candidates described the town as an unsafe dump.
The event quickly turned into a farce as two members of a hired steel band said they were uncomfortable about playing at the event. Marlon Hibbert, whose parents are Jamaican, said he thought Ukip was racist and he had had no idea it was Farage's party that made the booking.
Crowds gathered around Ukip supporters, including one of the party's most prominent black activists Winston McKenzie, a Croydon council candidate, who used a megaphone to say he was proud to back the party. But he was interrupted by two Romanian protesters, who declined to give their names, accusing Ukip of being a Nazi party. He was also confronted by resident Anthony St Croix, who demanded to know why a Ukip candidate had talked about sending Lenny Henry back to a "black country".

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has pulled out of a musical carnival organised by his party after supporters clashed with protesters in the street.
A steel band hired for the event in Croydon, south London, refused to continue playing when told they had been hired on behalf of UKIP.
Romanians carrying banners argued with party activists over Mr Farage's recent comments about their fellow countrymen.
UKIP's Winston McKenzie said Mr Farage had withdrawn for security reasons.
The anti-EU party had promised to bring a "strong and positive message" to the streets of Croydon, with a "bold and vibrant" carnival-style campaign event.
Looks like Farage couldn't handle the barrage
man UKIP look like such a fucking parody these days
it feels like they're falling apart like the old BNP
I'm imagining all of this happening with the most brittish accents ever.
"WANKAH!"

Someone will just come along to take their place, assuming they do implode.
The cycle will continue until they or a like-minded party actually gets into power, at which point history will be the final judge of the modern "far-right".
reminds me of that edinburgh visit

no - populism has always existed in British politics, and it always wax and wanes but never actually gets anywhere because people soon realise how terrible they actually are
no - populism has always existed in British politics, and it always wax and wanes but never actually gets anywhere because people soon realise how terrible they actually are
Then it wouldn't be populism.
Then it wouldn't be populism.
huh?
why.
I'm guessing you have a fundamental misunderstanding over what populism actually is.

yeah somehow everyone is going to become so xenophobic and uneducated that they're just going to vote for a far-right party... somehow...

That depends how you define xenophobic.
But if you mean to say that anti-EU or anti-immigration sentiment can boil-over to the point where a man like Farage could end up in Downing St, then yes, I do think that's possible.
Here's the thing; even if you convince people that UKIP is racist/xenophobic, and that stops people voting for them, it's not going to make people suddenly LIKE the EU, or become more left-wing.
They'll just wait for someone more respectable with similar views to come along.
the Farage method of dealing with accusations of racism - hire a steel drum band under false pretenses, fail to pay them, and call it good

Someone needs to tell her that she's holding her sign the wrong way.

Good. I don't really want UKIP to run the country.
More far-left wing thugs trying to destroy free speech?
More far-left wing thugs trying to destroy free speech?
Destroying free speech by counter protesting a protest?
Someone needs to tell her that she's holding her sign the wrong way.
maybe it's double sided
Destroying free speech by counter protesting a protest?
It wasn't a protest, it was an public event which was ruined by mobs of thugs shouting them down.
Destroying free speech by counter protesting a protest?
I think he was joking.
More far-left wing thugs trying to destroy free speech?
a far-left thug who destroys free-speech is a communist with a truncheon who makes political ideologies illegal
these are people with signs that say "i don't like racism"
It wasn't a protest, it was an public event which was ruined by mobs of thugs shouting them down.
Or, in other words, people were using their right to free speech.

But Ukip aren't racist, and if they could they would ban Ukip, and infact they have used physical force in the past.

lmao a far right voter with a persecution complex
the irony
Or, in other words, people were using their right to free speech.
There is a difference between expressing opinions and actively trying to prevent others from expressing theirs.

I fail to see the irony. How often do you see Far-Left wing events being protested? Why are there no protests when Communists hoist portraits of Stalin on the May-Day parades?
If these people think that Ukip are bad, then they should attempt an argument and not just dogmatically spout "RACIST".
There is a difference between expressing opinions and actively trying to prevent others from expressing theirs.
[persecution complex]
people are just expressing the well deserved and legitimate dislike of an abhorrent political party as they are allowed to do so and are protected in this free society.
But Ukip aren't racist, and if they could they would ban Ukip, and infact they have used physical force in the past.
Apart from a candidate telling Lenny Henry to go back to a "black country"
Frequent discrimination against romanians because apparently they're all criminals, perpetuated by Mr Farage himself.
Another candidate claiming aid money shouldn't go to "bongo bongo land"
In fact, I'm starting to see some kind of pattern here.

Because unless those Communists are actively trying to resurrect old broseph what exactly would they be protested for?

If you're going to judge a whole party by the opinions of individual candidates, Labour would be a militant communist party.

what about the opinions of the party leader
