Woman arrested after damaging Satanic display at Florida Capitol
A woman was arrested Tuesday after she began to tear down a display by the Satanic Temple in the lobby of the Florida Capitol.
The Tallahassee Democrat reported that 54-year-old Susan Hemeryck told two Florida Department of Law Enforcement Capitol Police officers that she "was sorry and had to take down the Satanic display", adding that it was "not right."
The paper reported that when Hemeryck tried to remove the display, an officer stopped her and told her to put it back, saying that she was violating the law. Hemeryck responded that she "could not take it anymore" and began trying to tear down the display before she was arrested.
I love this so much!
...and a display by the Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, which mocks beliefs that a god created the universe and argues instead that the universe was created by a plate of pasta and meatballs.
Lost my shit. :v:

Blessed be his noodly appendages.
Says that the display was supposed to be an atheist version of the nativity scene set up nearby. What a crock of shit.

Well at least I'll save a few brain cells
So, the law is on the side of Satan? I fucking knew it.
"It's just wrong, when you remove baby Jesus two days before Christmas and put Satan in his place — that just can't happen. I couldn't allow it to happen," Hemeryck, who said she was wearing a shirt that said "Catholic Warrior" when she arrived at the Capitol, told the Associated Press "I was there at the right time and the right moment and I needed to take a stand against Satan."
HAHAHAHAHA
Catholic Warrior(tm)
And if someone came and destroyed a nativity scene... Then what? Why does it matter if their preferred religion is Satanism or believing in our glorious Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster.. It's still their religion and it should be respected as such.
She is the hero the Catholics deserve.
I like how the damage she did actually ended up saving the Lucifer figurine from the fires of hell.
Good job lady you just sprung Satan from jail
What disturbs me is that there are hundreds of millions of people out there who legitimately feel that what is supposed to be, though a distasteful mockery, a counterpoint to their God, is actually posing a direct threat to society from their skewed perspective. That there are people who are so devout that they absolutely must destroy anything that soils their preferred messiah and god is scary. I'm not saying they're mentally unstable and a threat to society should you be a threat to their religion, but with the amount of guns and bible/quran/whatever thumping going on in the world, I'd be just a tiny bit scared of the implications of this overflowing zealotry.

To deny things that have already been proven is a form of mental illness. Sure Christianity seems harmless today, whose to say we wont have a radical political movement in the future where the Christians take control and we start having isis style executions of nonbelievers. I can assure you some Christians see nothing wrong with that.
did the atheists put their display up for no reason other than spite

Doesn't matter; first amendment, bitches!

The Satanic Church put it up, I think. They're a real church that genuinely follows Satan. Not as a deity or anything, but as a literary character akin to Prometheus. Gave humans knowledge like Prometheus gave them fire.

I feel sorry for her. She's obviously delusional...
At the end of the day, destruction of property is still destruction of property.

(Slightly Off Topic)
Amusingly, that is pretty similar to the Jihad aspect of Islam; retaliation against an insult against Islam. (Although that is considered a lesser Jihad, a Greater Jihad is self-spiritual purification)
On that train of thought, remember the Crusades? It's pretty normal for Christianity to be pretty violent and bigoted when the Church is involved back then, and maybe now. Until the Church got curb stomped in the Holy Lands/Jerusalem (which is still being fought over in some form or another), they were fighting over Jerusalem as well.
Begs the question, is Christianity that much different from Islam?

I think its great they are exercising their constitutional rights but would it really have hurt them to do it more tastefully? Still doesn't excuse the woman doing what she did though.

The Satanic Temple is non-superstitious. They don't worship Satan, but they use him as a symbol for knowledge, critical thinking, rebellion, etc.

There's nothing in that edit that's implausible. Although anyone with a brain would see which situation is more plausible.

It's more tasteful than Christian iconography which literally involves a dude strapped to a torture device.
In the end it's all dumb because Satanic imagery is either just pagan or Christian imagery repurposed but at no point can we pretend that Satanism is somehow less tasteful, it isn't.
Where can I get that "Catholic Warrior" t-shirt? Hahah

I believe it's not even about religion itself, it's mostly about society which professes a religion. A society with a good portion of highly educated people sooner or later comes to ideas of tolerance. Note that absolute majority of fanatics of any sort are either poorly educated or not educated at all. Standard of living also plays it's role, but i think it's just a secondary factor, since it's usually just a consequence of how educated society is.
Sorry .. that t-shirt just reminded me of this
