John Paul II could be declared a saint this year after a Vatican committee approved a second miracle attributed to the Polish pope's intercession.
The Congregation for the Causes of Saints ruled an "inexplicable recovery" on 1 May 2011 was due to the late Pope's intercession, Ansa reported.
Pope Francis must now give his approval before a canonisation date is set.
You know, I am not religious but this man did a lot of good for his own country, and for the world. He's got his own place in many people's hearts.
This dude forgave and talked with the guy who attempted to murder him, he derserves this.
That guy was a pretty cool Pope, not gonna lie.
Good, don't think any pope was as nice and pious as this guy.

By Pope standards, yes, but compared to everyone else he was still a backwards old man

Iunno, current one's looking good. Too early to say for sure, but seems nice.

He was actually very forward thinking, and fought a lot of that backwards thinking.
He was pretty cool.
This guy is cool and all but what about Ron Paul? How come he isn't declare a saint.
This guy is cool and all but what about Ron Paul? How come he isn't declare a saint.
Because we didn't listen, and now it's too late.
This guy is cool and all but what about Ron Paul? How come he isn't declare a saint.
it hasn't even started yet
Well deserved.
Whenever I even think of the word "Pope", it's still this guy I think of.
They seem to like fast-tracking saints more and more nowadays. Guess it's to attract media attention; a story that takes 100 years or more to reach fruition is of interest to very few people.
So when they tell popes "It'll take a miracle for you to ever be declared a saint" they mean it literally?
What is the second miracle considered canonic? One is when he cured a nun with Parkinson's, but I can't seem to find info about the other one.

It'll be strange calling him St. Wojtyla
[editline]2nd July 2013[/editline]
Trivia- latest person to be declared saint was St. Pious of Petralcina, Italian, and his canonic miracle are the Stigmatas.
Hard to believe he's been dead for eight years.
He was my favorite pope.
That guy was a decent pope, but I still don't understand why the Vatican exists in a way it does today.
It's a rotten and corrupted institution that has lost most of it's credibility because of the massive pedophilia ring they had, and possibly still have, going during 1950 - 2011.
I'd like to know what kind of filth they have hidden in their archives from that time period.
he was actually rather shitty, he elected several VERY conservatives cardinals for cardinal college consistently, did everything he could to help cover the pedophiles scandals, he simply had extremely good PR, don't be fooled.
i used to be a catholic btw(forced through lol).

I recall hearing that one person couldn't be declared a saint because they didn't have any miracles to their name, so they tried to find one.
What they decided on was that on his deathbed, he was served some cod/tuna/something, and he said "This pirch is nice", and obviously this means that it turned to pirch in his mouth, meaning he'd performed a miracle.

Saying that you used to be a catholic because you were forced is kinda redundant. If you didn't believe, surely you were never one?
That's my stance, as someone who was also baptised and put through communion (though only because my mother felt she needed too, no one in my family is particularly religious).

No that's benedictus XVI, the one who stepped down voluntarily.
John Paul was one of the last truly awesome popes.

We should just drop making a sequel and burn the franchise before it gets raped again. We can't have another 1300s crisis.

Considering the type of posts you make I'm having a hard time deciding whether this is satire or a true question.
