• Australian Government considering scrapping the 5 cent coin. (Australia bans currency? No, can't be.
High metal prices and inflation might result in the five-cent coin following one-and-two-cent pieces into extinction. A spokesman for Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten said the government is considering a recommendation from the Royal Australian Mint to scrap five-cent coins because the cost of making them exceeds their face value, The Sun-Herald reports. Mr Shorten is worried about what the move would mean for charities, the main recipients of five-and-10-cent coin donations, the newspaper reports. Advice would likely be sought from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to determine standard pricing policies on rounding prices up or down. One-and two-cent coins were removed from circulation in a 1990 budget move.
Source: http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/newsbusiness/aap/8265510/govt-considering-scrapping-5c-coin
I wouldn't miss it honestly As long as we don't have to pay more for stuff than we already do
Yeah, I don't really care either way.
I never really use it anyways.

But, how will I scratch scratchies now?
But, how will I scratch scratchies now?
10 cent coins
we already ditched 5 cent coins in nz ahahhaha up yours australia
ABC News just said that the government has no intention to do this.
I'm waiting for someone to make a big deal about this because of the "Australia bans x" joke in the title and go on about how everyone in Australia lives under some tyrannic government.
When will America scrap pennies? :v:
It would be an arse to pay for stuff with 5 cents.
definitely dont need them anymore
we already ditched 5 cent coins in nz ahahhaha up yours australia
I'm sure the 8 people in your country were very happy when it was ditched.
This wouldn't bother me one bit, it'd even increase the lifespan of my wallets too.
But, how will I scratch scratchies now?
You use a 5 cent coin? 20s are better for that in my experience.
Only thing this affected here was the 5 cent lollies at dairy's. Playground economies changed forever.
Good. 5c coins are fucking useless.
we already ditched 5 cent coins in nz ahahhaha up yours australia
lmao owned
Good plan in my opinion. They currently just end up either glued to another 5c coin to make a $2 coin, or in the small tin next to my desk.
You use a 5 cent coin? 20s are better for that in my experience.
50s are where it's at. Flat sides get large areas scratched quickly and efficiently. I don't think I've ever been able to properly scratch with a 5 though. Too small and shit.
When will America scrap pennies? :v:
Pennies are fun to purely spend on extremely expensive things with though. :frown:

Why won't the US go ahead and do this too? Cost of making a penny has been higher than its face value for a few years now. Can't fucking buy anything for less than a quarter now anyways. Fuck pennies, and nickels. Dimes are pretty bad too, especially since they are the smallest.

I think we should ditch coins altogether and start manufacturing dollar bills again.
Fuck 5 cent coins, I always end up with a fuckload of them in my wallet.
