Well, according to Pixar, two companies share that honour. "We've met quite a few of the Blizzard people actually - some of the cinematics team," Pixar's Andrew Payton tells GI.biz. "Blizzard and Pixar almost seem like mirror images of one another: The same sort of philosophy; the same sort of work ethic; the same attention to detail." "They're basically the biggest company in the games industry, and we're the biggest company in the 3D film industry - it's interesting talking to them, because we always come across the same sort of problems and it just comes down to the philosophy of what you're trying to do." "Their philosophy has always been trying to make the greatest game they can make, and for Pixar it's about trying to make the greatest film we can make. It's never an easy process - every film has its own slew of nightmares and production problems, and it is almost like giving birth with tonnes of complications in the process." Now, he's not talking in terms of money spent or awards won or units shifted (though for both those companies those tallies are impressive). He's talking about a passion, a drive to make sure every product released is as perfect as it can be. And while he heaps praise upon Blizzard for their "it's ready when it's ready", they're not the only games company in line for a shout-out. "Nothing is guaranteed, or goes as planned, but if you keep yourself grounded in what you're trying to do - which is make a piece of artwork that people would love to watch, it touches them. And that's the same thing that Blizzard and Bioware do - they're making games that, when you turn the computer off, you're still thinking about the game. There's an important place for that." Considering the companies he's talking about - with the fanaticism over Blizzard culture and both company's obsession with creating "real" worlds - Pixar's Andrew Payton seems to know his video games. Which only makes his statements all the more endearing to the developers involved!
all of blizzards games are amazing so i kinda agree here
Yep, no problems with that.
...what No, seriously. What.
...what No, seriously. What.
They make lovely franchises, everyone loves them, and their franchises have a nostalgic value because they're so old. Am I talking about Pixar or Blizzard?
Have to say that's quite an accurate quote in terms of the train of thought the 2 companies have when working on something.
Blizzard? Biggest company in the games industry? Ya learn something new every day.
Blizzard? Biggest company in the games industry? Ya learn something new every day.
They make a shit load of money off WOW.
...what No, seriously. What.
Blizzard makes awesome RTS's like Warcraft and Starcraft, they have a highly successful MMO that everyone still loves to play, They have a RPG that people highly acclaim (diablo) i don't see why it's a bad choice.
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
They make a shit load of money off WOW.
Yeah, I'm still suprised though.
Yeah.... I guess.
ITT: Butthurt valve fanboys
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
I'll have to disagree, When I see Half-life 1 I go, Oh that was a good game When I see Warcraft two or three, I go, Holy fucking shit that game was awesome and have to play it again.
They do tend to bring out quality games.
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
Valve is the Quentin Tarantino of the gaming world.
It seems kinda bigheaded for Pixar to say something like that in my opinion. They do make good movies but it still seems like it.
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
they are the vancouver pixar of the gaming world
Reminds me of the headline where EA claim to be the Disney of the gaming world. Urgh.
Valve are the pixar of gaming world
I agree. It's gonna take em 10 years to release the third in the series.
I agree with this article
Its a shame blizzard had to join with activision tho :( other than that yeah they're games are awesome so i agree.
Reminds me of the headline where EA claim to be the Disney of the gaming world. Urgh.
They are, they did a load of stuff everyone liked a long time ago, but now it's not so good.
When I see Warcraft two or three, I go, Holy fucking shit that game was awesome and have to play it again.
What about before then? Blizzard made a few other games too.
ITT: Butthurt valve fanboys
Exactly. Anyway I could see why they would meet with the cinematics team, Blizzard makes some greeeat cutscenes (all of the ones in Diablo II for example).
While I personally dislike Blizzard's games, I would agree with this, considering the majority of gamers do love Blizzard.
Reminds me of the headline where EA claim to be the Disney of the gaming world. Urgh.
I can see a lot of similarities.
