Obamadon gracilis was one of nine newly discovered species reported on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In naming the new species, Yale scientists combined the Latin "Obamadon" for "Obama's teeth" and "gracilis," which means slender. "The lizard has these very tall, straight teeth and Obama has these tall, straight incisors and a great smile," said Nick Longrich, a paleontologist at the school in New Haven, Connecticut. Like many other dinosaurs, the lizard died out about 65 million years ago when a giant asteroid struck earth, scientists say.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/9738614/Obamadon-gracilis-New-dinosaur-named-in-honour-of-Obamas-toothy-grin.html
dinosaurs, the lizard
dinosaurs aren't lizards
dinosaurs aren't lizards
Neither are presidents but people believe it anyways :v:
i knew obama was an ancient reptilian i fucking knew it
There's also a fish named after him: http://www.sci-news.com/biology/article00731.html
Obamadon is the best name for anything ever
Darn obongodon trying to take away our family values with his slender, straight teeth and great smile
Is Obama's teeth an actual latin origin or did they just decide to fuck with latin just to put Obama into something.
Is Obama's teeth an actual latin origin or did they just decide to fuck with latin just to put Obama into something.
Biological nomenclature is really only tenuously connected to Latin and Greek anymore. I think the suffix "don" is greek; the latin word is "dens" and a more correct latin writing would be "dens obamum" or something.
Obama is so great even the Obamadon who knew what would happen, and who is posing for the picture, is happy!
Is Obama's teeth an actual latin origin or did they just decide to fuck with latin just to put Obama into something.
Nowadays you can name new creatures whatever you want
I think naming a dinosaur after a president is pretty stupid.
there's a lot of terribly named sciency things
Nowadays you can name new creatures whatever you want
On subjects like this they should have names related to them, not flavour of the month crap because someone has a hard on for a president.

I mean, who wouldn't want to name a new mineral Cummingtonite just to use it in puns?
I think naming a dinosaur after a president is pretty stupid.
it's not like the dinosaurs give a shit anymore
its an islamic communist dinosaur from Kenya that wiped out the dinosaurs of the world by pretending to be their friend then starting a nuclear war.
Obamadon is the best name for anything ever
Obamadon 2016 - We shall grant the lizard population the autonomy they deserve!
Naming an ancient creature after a contemporary person. 200 years from now, people will say " why the fuck did they name it Obamadon? "
Mainly because scientists are jerkoffs who can have fun like the rest of us. I mean, who wouldn't want to name a new mineral Cummingtonite just to use it in puns?
Scientist are probably busy doing science not making punny t-shirts and memes.
Naming an ancient creature after a contemporary person. 200 years from now, people will say " why the fuck did they name it Obamadon? "
We humans have gotten better at keeping track of stuff, so I'd imagine in 200 years it'll be pretty easy to know why by just looking it up.
Obama is the Don. Appropriate.
obangobon is using communism to take away our plants #romneydon 2016
to be honest though I don't think Sir Cummington realized how much fun the rest of the world has
Actually, its discovery in Cummington is what gave it its name.
This is Obamadon's America
Mainly because scientists are jerkoffs who can have fun like the rest of us. I mean, who wouldn't want to name a new mineral Cummingtonite just to use it in puns?
Well, apparently the people who discovered it - since it is named after the town of Cummington.
dinosaurs aren't lizards
You misunderstand. "Like many other dinosaurs, the lizard died" Does not mean that dinosaurs where lizards. It means that this lizard was a dinosaur.
