This is the panel that got bomb threats and all that nonsense. Enjoy. Also, that moderator is ridiculous. You can't talk about GamerGate without talking about the political motivations behind the opposing side. How else do you explain a blatant disregard for ethical breaches and some of the actions that have taken place by "professionals" in a billion dollar industry? That conversation is inseparable from the rest of it because they made it that way. They made it about gender. They made it about diversification. They made it about politics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEUq_WlMDX0 [editline]17th August 2015[/editline] So I just watched the entire thing and it's basically the press and the moderator interrogating Milo/CHS/Cathy Young "how do we report on this story, because it's too complicated now that we're playing catch up a year later"
don't forget the morning panel.
don't forget the morning panel.
Haven't watched that one. Is it any better than the one I posted? Because this is fucking infuriating. "We weren't there for that, explain GamerGate but don't spent more than a minute talking or else I'll repeat we weren't there for it" This is the worst debate I've ever watched.
That moderator or whatever... acting like a total dickhead during the "debate" and even after the dead air... Like... that guy seems like a complete fucking self-entitled douche.
I don't see how any reasonable person can expect to understand the motivation and history of GamerGate in a minute news story. I don't see how any reasonable person can expect to understand the importance of GamerGate without referring to the way the media handled it in the past and how it all started. It's complete and utter nonsense. It's not GamerGate's job to make the story perfectly presentable to the editor of *insert national news outlet* and most importantly, if you have something against sources based on social networking and reddit/anonymous message boards, don't report on a fucking hashtag campaign based on tweets, reddit/chan posts.
Haven't watched that one. Is it any better than the one I posted?
it sorta is.

The metamorphosis, It begins!

Holy shit, is GamerGate still a thing?
Holy shit, is GamerGate still a thing?
yes. don't know if you've noticed, but there's a thread about it that's been alive and well for quite a while now
yes. don't know if you've noticed, but there's a thread about it that's been alive and well for quite a while now
I've made it my mission to never click anything that contains the words "Ethics in Games Journalism"
I've made it my mission to never click anything that contains the words "Ethics in Games Journalism"
This makes you sound like an ass. Word to the wise.
This makes you sound like an ass. Word to the wise.
Why? It's a topic that I know sparks a lot of controversy and will probably make me angry. It also doesn't interest me all that much.
Why? It's a topic that I know sparks a lot of controversy and will probably make me angry. It also doesn't interest me all that much.
hey brother that's all fine and dandy, but why come into this thread if it doesn't interest you?
How many people actually care about gamergate? Never actually read too far into it but from all the news titles I've seen and stuff it looks like it's just the same old bunch of people making a fuss over a load of rubbish
hey brother that's all fine and dandy, but why come into this thread if it doesn't interest you?
Because I was curious if those was the bomb threat one

Most people are aware that sites like Gawker and Polygon are garbage. They're aware that there's corruption in gaming journalism. A lot of gaming sites have updated their ethics policy. Most of what's left for Gamergate concerns their own image and the misinformation that has been and continues to be repeated about them by news sources and places like Wikipedia. It still functions as a consumer watchdog group to try to deal with events concerning corruption and anti-consumer practices in games journalism and the indie gaming scene, as well as occasionally in the AAA gaming scene, although admittedly it's harder to make a difference there. But right now their main "fight" is defending their own image.

And better tools for main stream media to better handle being exploited. Then just what you said.
