Hey, i've been meaning to make this thread for a while but i was always too lazy.
Anyone ELSE here on their schools debate team?
I'm doing LD.
We get like, 2k$ from patton oswalt every year for our debate team so we can afford tons of briefs and shit.
We just went to James madison university a while ago. i think i got 3-in-1, but my first one we both kinda sucked, and i know i lost my fourth.
no
skycake :)
School is for children. :smug:
If my school had one.
I'd be on it =)
I wouldn't expect Patton Oswalt to be into debate... hell, I wouldn't expect him to have money.
Bah! Lincoln Douglas!
Policy Debate is what a real man does.
Ha, ha, ha, ha
Im on by debate team and my two friends went LD at JMU and placed first
I was at GMU
Also add something about Forensics
opponent: "well you see im right because of blah and blah and blah"
me: "youre a fucking faggot and debating this topic is pointless i win"
id be a good debater
LD is for the new children. Policy Debate is where the competition is.
I'm trying out LD after a couple of competitions in Student Congress. Even though that isn't really debate.
i bet you're the "master debater"

I bet you were a child at some point.
We don't have a debate team :(
I disagree.
I was going to join the debate team, but was quickly talked out of it.
I'm in this program called the Model United Nations, we go on trips to colleges in the city and southern Georgia and do debates based on the committee and country we were assigned to.
Last time we were at Georgia Tech I had been assigned to the International Atomic Energy Agency of The Central African Republic. It was pretty cool except that I spent so much money funding for the hotel we stayed at and not to mention all the food I had to buy.
Similar to above poster, I did this model United Nations thing where each different team of two from each different school got a different country.
Typically me and my friend got shitty little Burkina Faso- the most obscure country in the world, with absolutely no involvement in any relevant debatable matters, and 40% of the damn population has aids.
Anyway if you can't think of a good argument accuse them all of having sex with animals.
The smart ones go into Mock Trial :smug:

PFF fuck 2 man debate, my partner always fucked it up... I HAD IT TOO!
FUCK I have to do some research on DPRK for that, FUCK
Ha, if you think the research is bad, just wait until you sit in a windowless gray room for 10 hours listening to people talk about their country's economy for two days.
I used to think that debate teams were for nerds, but you have really proven to me that it is indeed for nerds.

It's as scripted as a real court trial.
Hell, most teams have lawyers and legal advisors helping them with how to properly present and argue their side, the teams we saw going the "Debate team" approach got slaughtered.

And repeating the exact same thing the last person to speak said, don't worry I've been through that hell hole twice

yeah I just went to my first competition for the first time 2 months ago...
12 hours one day and 9 hours the other days in one room... and i only debated for 4 rounds, 45 minutes around that's eh around 3-4 hours of debating, and waiting 17 hours for the rest of the team to finish....

god DAMN
I'm actually doing a debate tomorrow for my AP Lit class over four day school weeks. But me and the guy I'm working with have actually planned out the topics we're going to "argue" about.
Nah, I'm not.
Considered it, though.
