[release]Archbishop Carlos Jose Nanez of Cordoba, Argentina, has begun canonical proceedings against an Argentine priest for refusing to retract the statements he publicly made supporting same-sex “marriage.” Canon law, the law which regulates internal matters of the Catholic Church, has an effect only on adherents of the Catholic faith.
Fr. Jose Nicolas Alessio received an enormous amount of media attention for his statements supporting gay “marriage” while he was pastor of St. Cajetan’s in the city of Cordoba.
The priest has continued to make statements to the media in support of same-sex “marriage.” “As a cautionary measure, the archbishop has prohibited him from the public exercising of the priestly ministry, which means he cannot celebrate Mass or administer the sacraments of the Church publicly, and therefore, cannot continue as pastor,” the news service reported.
In his statement, Archbishop Nanez noted that, he has “exhausted all possible pastoral means to get Father Jose Nicolas Alessio to amend his ways and retract his statements” in support of same-sex “marriage.” The archbishop explained that since the priest has “denied every opportunity to modify his actions, I have decided to initiate canonical proceedings under the inter-diocesan Tribunal of Cordoba so that all action will take place according to current ecclesial law.”[/release]
Glad their priorities are straight.
I honestly can't see the Catholic Church surviving for more than another decade, they just keep shooting themselves in the foot over and over and over. They're showing themselves to be monsterous human beings and everyone except Bill Donahue (that's it) can see it.
oh come on now that is just silly
It's not like a real prosecution or anything. The most they can do is kick him out.
Why does the source use scare quotes when talking about gay marriage?

I can't believe how intolerant those idiots are.
Lets prosecute gay marriage supporters, but SUPPORT pedophiles... Hell yeah.

On little boys at that.
"The height of moral comes from the Bible." (Typical Bollocks everyone have heard.)
Homophobic bastards.
I wouldn't care that much if it just was for the fact they're homophobic, they can keep their ancient views to themselves. But the fact that so many among them are actually gay pedophiles, and the church tried to cover it up, that takes hypocrisy to a whole new level.
I bet that this is exactly what Jesus meant by being peaceful and tolerant.
This got old back in the turn of the millenium, hard to believe it's been a decade and there still has not been any progress.
How is this news?
The church is probably right on this one, progress is over-rated anyway.
Freaking homophobes, supporting pedophilia but protests gay marriage. Well, it's not news.
Why the hell aren't any human rights group saying anything about this?

Hey, did you ever stop to think that they aren't doing this just so they could appear evil in your eyes, they believe that they are doing the right thing.

Believing they are doing the right thing and doing the right thing are two entirely different things.
I'll give you an example, the Evilutounary Biologist in comics and movies, thinks human evolution has stagnated so tries to kick start it, a noble cause bettering mankind.
He achieves this by sterilising those with an IQ below 120 and genetically modifying those he deems worthy into super strong super intelligent human beings.
Great idea, piss poor execution.
ITT: Catholic leaders being idiots as usual.
Hey, did you ever stop to think that they aren't doing this just so they could appear evil in your eyes, they believe that they are doing the right thing.
Wait, what? They appear evil in my eyes BECAUSE they're doing what they think is the right thing. It'd be one thing if they were doing this just to be evil, but doing this because of dogma and morality that makes them think this is not only right, but the will of god, is just abominable.
And you're all so sure that you're definitely right... maybe the Church's belief that they are right is as strong as yours?

Stop being a fucking catholic mouthpiece, you're bad at it anyways.
I don't "believe" i'm right, it's kind of a given that, disregarding dogma and irrational beliefs, gays are just as human as everyone else and deserve the exact same rights and access to things such as marriage.
What the fuck are they thinking!?

Stop being a prick. I make one post, and you instantly start ripping into me. How about you show a little bit of civility and stop acting like an angry 9 year old.
My point is that there are also a few reasons AGAINST gay marriage. One of them in particular is the more religious-oriented one (I'll use Catholicism's)- that as quoted in the bible, marriage is to be between a man and a woman BY DEFINITION. Homosexuals cannot have a gay marriage, because "gay marriage" is an oxymoron. Given that the Catholic Church runs for the Catholic Faith, I think it's fair to say this is their view. How is this more right or wrong than yours?
Marriage is a outdated concept.

everyone let's go have civil unions instead

No, you have a history of stupid posts in support of the catholic church, this isn't a one time thing.
And could you have said something stupider? You just backed up my point, there's no reason to be against gay marriage other than dogma, and that's not a reason in a secular society. Their view is right only in their religion-addled minds, no person unburdened of dogma has a reason to think gay marriage is wrong. And because our society is a secular one by definition, arguments from that dogma have no backing, and it's wrong to deny a person rights because of this dogma. And evil, as well.
Also, just for shits and giggles, give me one reason that's couched in science rather than dogma. You can't, because there isn't one.
4 posts. 4 posts, and you've got me all figured out. I take my hat off to you, you must be a.. clairvoyant?
What the hell does this have to do with science? What, do you want me to find a gene with a genetic code that reads "GAYS SHOULDN'T BE MARRIED"? This is about society, not science - and the religious argument is just as valid. This isn't about whether this should be imposed on a secular society - this is about whether something is concretely right, or concretely wrong. The Church's argument would still stand; if gay marriage is imposed in a secular society, it could still be wrong.
I'm just paraphrasing the Catholic argument based on what I've figured out over the years; I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it.

Because their faith interferes with other's rights, which is wrong. Gay marriage doesn't, so it is "right."

Seeing as how it's an opinion, no it can't be concretely right or wrong, but it can be when they put that opinion into action. I'm not arguing against the church believing that, I never said they shouldn't. What I said was that they were evil for doing so because to deny people equal rights is pretty much evil. I don't understand how you think a religious argument is valid in society, because like i've said, secular. I'm not entirely sure what you're even arguing, besides some amorphous point about they not being right or wrong or idk. All I get is that you're supporting them.
Whats wrong with catholics? You'd think they would learn eventually. Its the only religeon that is still backwards, although it resides mainly in 1st world countries.
Christianity - 1st world country and a bunch of harmless idiots
Islam - Backwards country, backwards religeon
Catholocism - 1st world country, backwards religeon.
Judeism - Vastly quiet
Religeon - Not worth paying attention to. Can't we just ignore them already?

"Registered partnerships" is the term you want, civil unions usually lack the same benefits as marriage. Of course, this could just be because Europe uses the term registered partnership more than the rest of the world and they're not as stupid.
