Dubbed the "Future Soldier Vision uniform", the outfit will feature a pair of specially designed smart glasses with a head-up display combined with a helmet-mounted camera and bone-conducting headphones. The devices are designed to help soldiers increase their awareness without compromising their hearing when on missions. Additionally, a smartwatch that provides communication support and monitors soldiers' biometrics data from sensors throughout body armour will keep track of life signs during combat. The hope is that this new smart uniform will help troops on the battlefield better communicate with each other and military personnel. It will feature a personal computer embedded in a helmet that has a subsystem for hearing protection and customisable segmented body armour with sensors and a power supply. The MoD will also update its standard Heckler & Koch SA80 assault rifle with technology that allows targeting information to be shared with units.
https://www.wareable.com/smart-clothing/ministry-of-defence-unveils-smart-uniforms-for-british-army-1698 Looks silly as fuck, especially the helmets. Whenever countries unveil their 'future soldier' concepts(Mine included), they just end up as nothing more than concepts.
In life or death situations I'm pretty sure functionality is maybe just a little bit more important than style. Although looking cool never hurts
Most military lab prototypes look silly. The three piece ceramic plate is a good idea though.
Looks good to me.

Seems like it would be less flexible, harder to maintain (new every time whenever it takes damage), expensive and unnecessary. Overall seems like a waste of money. Its also carrying minimum gear to look all hightech and mobile, reality of it will be more like soldiers from the current army with a silly looking helmet and fantasy gam-esqe armour.

The whole point of the three-plate design is that it's flexible. You also only have to replace one small and presumably cheaper plate instead of the whole thing (like the have to do now - I'm not sure where you got the idea that existing ones don't need to be replaced if damaged) if it's damaged for whatever reason.
That HUD in the glasses looks awesome!
it looks like something from a Spaceballs remake
It doesn't look too bad compare it to this [t]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/spanish_army_comfut_1-tfb.jpg[/t]
aside from the three lights(?) on top, it looks ok.
I'd much rather this than the borderline parody I'm seeing in the OP. It looks like some dumbshit out of a comedy/parody.
That one looks like a fucking anime. At least the OP one looks practical.
aside from the three lights(?) on top, it looks ok.
I think they're guns
I think they're guns
Guns don't have lenses over the muzzle.
Guns don't have lenses over the muzzle.
Shhh, the bullets are behind the lenses

I dunno if you've worn those plates, but they kind of lock your upper body in place. You can still bend, crawl, run, and whatever you need to do, but you definitely notice that plate pressed against your chest. A three piece plate assembly allows them to slide over each other is you bend and whatnot, so that you have greater flexibility/mobility. Plus, I don't see why they couldn't still just be replaceable. It's just three pouches instead of one. A three-plate armor system would not only be more effective at protection, but would likely be cheaper to repair. With a single plate, a shot anywhere on it will destroy the plate and drastically limit its effectiveness. Gotta scrap the whole thing. Having three smaller plates means if one is shot and damaged, the other two are still fine. This not only improves the protection against multiple slots, but probably reduces material costs, since each small plate is likely less expensive than one big one.
That one looks like a fucking anime. At least the OP one looks practical.
Looks closer to videogame than anime. Honestly I just can't help but smirk at the helmet. Practical or not I don't like the look.
The only thing that strikes me as incredibly silly are those camera(?) things on the helmet, seems like not a good place to put them anyways. [editline]17th September 2015[/editline] Don't get me wrong, it still seems a little jank even without that thing on the helmet.
Not many better places for them, however. The point of the cameras is most likely to feed into the HUD in the glasses, displaying relevant mission data (compass, navpoints, whatever), and possibly even to transmit a feed back to the dudes in mission control so that they can record mission info and monitor the situation as if they were actually there on the ground. Best place for that seems like it would be on the helmet. [editline]17th September 2015[/editline]
It doesn't look too bad compare it to this [t]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/spanish_army_comfut_1-tfb.jpg[/t]
Welcome to twenty minute suit-up times, extreme heat exhaustion, and a massive lack of mobility.

Thanks for the insight.
Still using the L85 in the future? Heh...
Coming from the institution that procured us the Churchill tank that was obsolete the day it was designed, the L85A1 disaster, Nimrod AWACS, Blowpipe and Rapier amongst many other things, I very much doubt we'll ever use this ridiculous looking uniform
The pants are my only real problem with this concept. For a uniform that looks to have been designed to be very sleek and lightweight, why did they give it flappy parachute pants? Make those a little more formfitting, and slap some kneepads on, and you're good to go. That's a highly mobile uniform that isn't going to get in your way as you crawl and run and do your soldierly biz. Maybe not as stylish as the shit you see in video games, but highly functional. Assuming, at least, that the tech built into the helmet is hardy enough not to constantly need repairs. While I understand the intent of cameras and HUD's, I could foresee real issues with subjecting those things to heat, muck, and rain on a daily basis.
Maybe if the guy in the video didn't have a babyface and wore the helmet straight (it was tilted a bit to his left), it wouldn't look so silly. Also, the "sensors" on top of the helmet are brilliant for peeking behind cover 'n shit like that. But the helmet would look much better if it wasn't so smooth. Maybe just a bit less.
Style boosts morale though. Good morale can be deciding factor between life and death too.
Nazi's were pretty stylish and they still lost

What is that tube running over the shoulder for?
Nazi's were pretty stylish and they still lost
People who breathe still die.
Nazi's were pretty stylish and they still lost
More to morale than looking stylish. They were being starved, 1000s dying and they must have realised their leader was utterly mad and that they were probably the bad guys.
What is that tube running over the shoulder for?
It looks like a power chord connected to aa flashlight.
At least it's not as bad as the last few iterations of futuristic soldier uniforms, most of that stuff is already pretty common
