I like the way they are using open source software to keep the cost down. Should also result in a large increase of linux-capable computer users (a good thing for the IT industry).
First time PC users, using Linux. Nothing can go wrong.

Actually, on a stable install of Ubuntu or something with everything they need already installed it's fairly idiot-proof.

This. Also, to someone who has never used a computer, Linux is no less appropriate than Windows would be.

If they're not already used to computers in general, it shouldn't be too much worse than any other OS.
Even macs which are designed to be super easy to use are incredibly confusing at first. You should see my grandma.
The only time an OS is unintuitive is when you've been using another for years. First time users starting on Linux will probably be fine.

If the number is 9.2 mil in the UK, imagine the US.
1st time users of computers are not going to like Linux. I can tell now.
Why? If they are first time users they will not know of anything else. Switching OS is only confusing to people who have been using one type of OS for many years.

Maybe they should use KDE because it looks so much like windows :downs:
There has to be some EXTREME cost cutting measures going on inside those computers to make them so cheap.

Seeing as only Hicks, 'nam vets, and heavy Catholics are the only ones without a computer, I can't see your point
You thought the internet was bad now, just wait until the unwashed masses get hold of these cheap PCs!

Or is that just a shop in the UK called UK online?
First time PC users, using Linux. Nothing can go wrong.
I don't think first time PC users will want to do anything more advanced than learn how to pay bills online.
