A soft drink can with the word "bomb" written on it forced a Mauritius-bound airliner to return to Melbourne airport, triggering a major emergency.
The captain of the Air Mauritius flight, which took off at 1.24pm (AEST), made the decision to return to Melbourne after the suspicious can was found on board.
The plane, with 180 passengers and nine crew, landed back at Tullamarine at 2.55pm where 12 fire trucks were on standby.
Victoria Police will be speaking with everyone who was on the plane to try to find out who saw the suspicious soft drink can first.
It is being inspected by the Arson and Explosives Squad to determine if there are any explosive substances, while all the baggage aboard the flight will be removed and screened.
Police said no threats were received by the airline.
At this stage no one has been arrested.
Melbourne Airport is operating as normal and there have been no delays to other flights.
They can do this? They canned the flight for this? This is so uncanny.
[sp]There. Now no one else can make cheesey puns.[/sp] :downs:
This should be in the news section I think.
edited: Nvm it's fixed now.
I'm tripping balls here. I swear to Batman I posted this in the news section.
What the fuck is going on in here?
[editline]cans[/editline]
Can it with the puns.
There's taking a possible risk seriously, and then there... this.
Honestly, what kind of person would try and blow up/hijack a plan with a CLEARLY MARKED BOMB!?
is this a new bot

they reply to users now?
I wonder when these guys will mistake oxygen for bombs.

Sudden brilliant idea: Make a bot that monitors Sensationalist Headlines. When a article is posted, it scans through the text to locate key words. And then it makes all the possible puns before anyone else does!
What kind of terrorist would go to the trouble of concealing a bomb in a can only to write BOMB on it? Might as well take a stick of fucking dynamite.

Where do you think you are?

Nobody would ever suspect it, except the TSA who are always on top of this shit. This does bring me to wonder how he got the soda can on the plane in the first place if you can't bring more than 3 oz of liquid on carryon luggage. The only way he could've done it was by writing 'BOMB' on a can of soda he got from an attendant, which makes it double retarded that they freaked out.

You can buy drinks once you're through security.
Someone should take a piece of paper, write "BOMB" on it, stick it somewhere on themselves and see if they stop him. They probably would.

People simply can not resist.
Wait, since when can users make threads in the News Node?
I'm confused
You can buy drinks once you're through security.
So they had a man on the inside then. Those clever bastards.
someone must have ordered a jaggerbomb
If I bring in a sticker note saying "Bomb" on it will it also get me booted off the plane?
Because that seriously is stupid.
Just throw the can out the window.

I'm not sure if this is the dumbest thing to come out of modern airline security, but it's certainly a candidate
Well who was retarde enough to do that? Bombs are no joke, dammit.
Loving the article's URL. "Plane lands safety after safety incident".
"Sukhanlawaeh, make sure you label the bomb ok! Last time you forgot and brought soda instead!"
I wanted orange, it gave me a bomb!
iunno it's possible

That's exactly what the terrorists want everyone to think.
At this point I am confident in saying that I guarantee you could abort a flight by flashing a black sphere-shaped candle with a long wick.

A bomb!
Once again the terrorist win.
I'm on the fence about this one. Should they have investigated a possible threat? Definitely. Should they have turned a flight around because of a soda can that's been written on by some dumbass? Eh.
