Garry wanted to go professional so he needed a company name. His first title was known as "FaceWound" and he wanted the names to go together I guess.

I think it has something to do with facepalming. I'm not sure. But I have heard that it originally was made for a game called Facewound, but I think that person who said that was kidding.

Facepunch Studios was the name Garry picked for his company/game studio developing [url=http://www.facewound.com/]Facewound[/url]. Originally all GMod-related stuff was hosted on [url]www.garry.tv[/url], but as GMod got more attention and facewound less (eventually ceased being developed), the two merged. EDIT: On closer examination, the site is still available: [url]http://www.facepunchstudios.com/[/url] The forums used to be hosted under that domain so it was often referred to as "FPS forums" or "Facepunch Forums", and the name just stuck I would guess.

Facewound was an actual game that Garry made. Presumably the title Facepunch originated from Facewound.

Because this forum was formerly dedicated to a game garry made before. Called FaceWound. I asume that's where the name came from

Facepunch makes a Facewound

He was creating a game called Facewound and looking for a company name when someone suggested Facepunch. He thought "Facewound by Facepunch Studios" sounded good, so it stuck. Then Facewound was canceled and what was forums.facepunchstudios.com became just facepunch.com. Then he actually DID create the company.
