Anzac Day is celebrated by Australia and New Zeland on 25 of April as the day when the Anzacs landed on whats now know as Anzac Beach in Turkey, It is also to remember Australians and New Zelander's who died in World War 2, Korean War, Vietnam War and now the War on Terror Picture of the beach landing Although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the Australian and New Zealand actions during the campaign left us all a powerful legacy. The creation of what became known as the “ANZAC legend” became an important part of the identity of both nations, shaping the ways they viewed both their past and their future. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.[/release]
Lest we forget.
The boys fought bravely, despite the loss.
The way they roll out all the documentries and give it wide media coverage cheapens it somewhat
ahh ANZAC day :)
I think that the fact that the english commanders didnt want the aussies to use bullets is dumb... And thats why it failed... We got far, But we had to be called back because we had barely no bullets and only baronets
In the third picture the only gay guy in the photo is smiling.
I went on an ANZAC march a couple years ago...

Doubt you'd get banned
"I think I got the buggers, sir"
My granddad fought in Borneo and Malaya in the Second World War, as did one my my Grandma's relatives as a Mosquito bomber/navigator. Better men then I. Lest We Forget.
:australia: [editline]08:09PM[/editline] Ha, it worked, silly sheep fuckers
That's the Aussie flag, not New Zealand. Sheep shagger.
That's the Aussie flag, not New Zealand. Sheep shagger.
I know
Why is is that no one has WWI memorials or days? I know America barley has one.
Because Australia has one because it is out worst war... And it was Winston Churchill idea for the invasion... ANZAC lost alot of its army in the invasion, Planned by england... The retreat, Planed by Australia didn't kill one person
My great grandfather landed on Gallipoli and made it out alive. He got shot in the eye and had it replaced with a glass eye (which he could remove and show the socket), he also had a shrapnel wound in his leg. I wish I had of met him. Very proud nonetheless.
This was WWI. Fuck rushing across open fields and into enemy trenches in the 1950s. TV was just coming in. Nobody's taking risks that big when there are motherfucking television sets back home.

Got his details but can't find anything about where he was etc, I suck at researching.

Today my school had an ANZAC assembly thing. I felt sad that I was the only student in the school who didn't fall asleep in it, and that no one but me was actually moved by the speech that a visiting WWII veteran was delivering.
The diggers were so badass. Diggers, I salute you.
I respect our soldiers, but it annoys me how we are obsessed by our greatest failure that was a completely senseless waste of life. We did organize one of the greatest and most efficient retreats of all time though.
:australia: Lest We Forget. I have an ANZAC Badge on my desk at the moment.
Is anyone else from the RAR on here? If so are you marching in the parade?
