Interesting though, maybe a meteor?
Maybe a christmas cracker factory exploded.

If I say 'weather balloon exploding' will it get me banned?
BBC radio just said that it was a sonic boom from a military typhoon jet scrambled due to a fake security alert.
Wait I heard this as well in Dorset!

As soon as I read the title I guessed it was the military.
Of course, I suspected a nuclear test, but still
A lot of my friends heard it. Can't say I did.
Oops
Apparently, a small helicopter transmitted on the wrong frequency, resulting in the jet being scrambled.

Just to give a source for the sonic boom:

"Birmingham Airport dismissed suggestions the sound could have been caused by a sonic boom as a plane came in to land."
No fucking shit, its a bit late to be going transonic as you land.
Reminds me of a time when a pair of 20 year olds stole a truck from the local rock quarry. They took it to a few miles outside of town and torched it. What they didn't know was that there was 200lbs of dynamite in the back of it. Whole fucking town shook and the two guys were killed in the blast.
I live in Nuneaton just down the road from Coventry (CV11) and nobody here heard anything.
