They are so incredibly fucking lucky, seeing how that plane crumpled and they are barely hurt. Also, I think they crashed because it's a light plane, and being loaded up with 4 big men was too much for it. How long it took to get off the ground enforces that thought.

This is what happens when your plane weighs too much. Thin Air from altitude already, overloaded plane, you struggle to gain altitude, you hit trees since the terrain is climbing faster than you
They couldn't have been going more than 70 MPH. When they started to descend because of the aircraft's weight, they probably slowed to about 30 MPH. Colliding with the smaller trees is probably what saved their lives.

Hah the second camera somehow ended up on top of the plane and slid off.
Feel sorry for the pilot, he looked pretty messed up.

Watching those trees get pulverized really puts the crash into perspective. At least they weren't miles into the wilderness when they crashed.
I read from a lot of places that it's the pilots fault. That he should check the temperature and the air density before takeoff, which he didn't do since the decent was caused by it.
That he continued to take off even though the runway ended. And apparently the stall warning was sounding all the time.
Not to mention that he has crashed before.
This actually makes me feel better about flying, the fact that most were unharmed.
Being a pilot myself, this is very scary to watch, especially knowing how often I came very close to a similar situation in a glider.

There are apps available for the iPad that allow you to use them as flight computers. They are useful for planning and navigation purposes. I doubt he was playing Angry Birds!

My uncle is a pilot for fedex and he uses an Ipad all the time. Not sure what for though.

Right. My stepdad flies planes, and he uses his iPad as a pilots log and notes. He still has the paper stuff, but the iPad is used along with the G1000 cockpit in his Cessna.
