Karzai and Afghanistan will back Pakistan if US goes to war with it
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Afghanistan would support Pakistan in case of military conflict between Pakistan and the United States, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in an interview to a private Pakistani TV channel broadcast on Saturday.
The remarks were in sharp contrast to recent tension between the two neighbors over cross-border raids, and Afghan accusations that Pakistan was involved in killing the chief Afghan peace envoy, former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani, by a suicide bomber on September 20.
"God forbid, If ever there is a war between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan," he said in the interview to Geo television.
"If Pakistan is attacked and if the people of Pakistan needs Afghanistan's help, Afghanistan will be there with you."
Such a situation is extremely unlikely, however. Despite months of tension and tough talk between Washington and Islamabad, the two allies appear to be working to ease tension.
In a two-day visit to Islamabad, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton issued stern warnings and asked for more cooperation in winding down the war in Afghanistan, but ruled out "boots on the ground" in North Waziristan, where Washington has been pushing Pakistan to tackle the Haqqani network.
The Haqqani are a group of militants Washington has blamed for a series of attacks in Afghanistan, using sanctuaries in the Pakistani tribal region along the Afghan border.
Pakistan is seen as a critical to the U.S. drive to end the conflict in Afghanistan.
Pressure on Islamabad has been mounting since U.S. special forces found and killed Osama bin Laden in May in a Pakistani garrison town, where he apparently had been living for years.
The secret bin Laden raid was the biggest blow to U.S.-Pakistan relations since Islamabad joined the U.S. "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
Karzai said tensions between the United States and Pakistan did not have any impact in his country's attitude toward Pakistan.
The TV channel, Geo, did not say when the interview was conducted.
Afghans have long been suspicious of Pakistan's intentions in their country and question its promise to help bring peace. Karzai repeated that concern in his remarks.
"Please brother, stop using all methods that hurt us and that are now hurting you.
"Let's engage from a different platform, a platform in which the two brothers only progress toward a better future in peace and harmony," he said.
Following the death of Rabbani, Karzai said he would cease attempting to reach out to the Afghan Taliban and instead negotiate directly with Pakistan, saying its military and intelligence services could influence the militants to make peace.
We'll just have to invade Afghanistan again :downs:
They act like they're a threat to anyone.
Just stay the fuck out of the middle east America for fucks sakes.
I knew this would happen, Afghanistan just punched them in the face.
This is just a stupid thing to say when you have that country's army camping inside of your country and training your forces.
Karzai, we installed you and we can depose you.
More evidence that it's time to pick up our shit and leave. If Karzai thinks he's so badass he could team up with Pakistan and fight America, then he should have no trouble holding off every other tribe in Afghanistan that wants to see his corrupt ass executed.

Perhaps that is why he is doing what he is doing, to gain "some" support from some of tribes, or at the very least to calm the tribes a bit.
They act like they're a threat to anyone.
Probably because they are. They are united as one.
Every heard of guerilla warfare? They pop up at random places.
It's funny because we train their soldiers and they depend on our training because none of them have a clue how to do it.
The 90% of the reason that the US remains in Afghanistan is for reconstruction and maintaining the peace. If the leadership structure (that the US built) is unwilling to support us, then it is time to leave.
Pakistan isn't in the middle east.
"Middle East" is a very arbitrary term. Egypt and Libya, and occasionally Sudan is considered "Middle East".
Personally, I like to call the Trans-Jordan and Arabian Peninsula region "South West Asia" because that's what it really is, geographically.
At this point, being in the Middle East is more idiotic than anything else going on right now in American policy, even more idiotic than our do-nothing congress.
How the fuck can Afghanistan support Pakistan? Seriously we control them right now don't we? Didn't we even establish our own democracy in it? So why would a fucking president say he would go to war with the US if we attacked Pakistan if we fucking put him there in the first place?
Pakistan can't control their own damn borders. Damn Taliban running around free over there crossing into Afghan. Yeah, I don't get why the Afghan president would support that shit.
good thing they were coalition-trained.
we'll pretty much know their every move, not to mention they're farrr inferior when it comes to equipment
It's funny because we train their soldiers and they depend on our training because none of them have a clue how to do it.
The US just seem to get enough training people in Afghanistan to kill us.
[dramatic whisper] I think Afghanistan might be lying to them [/dramatic whisper]
why on earth would the US even go to war with pakistan?
why on earth would the US even go to war with pakistan?
Because pakistan is responsible for much the worlds terrorism and is a significant nuclear proliferation risk.
The current strategy is to give the government lots of aid to keep it becoming too radical, and use drones to bomb the areas that the pro-west elements of the government are unable to really control.
I'm curious what Iran would do in an Paki-American War.

What they do every night, pinky
fund and train more insurgents
I think Karzai did this to look good in front of his people and to try to impress other countries in the area.
It's a stunt. If war did really break out between Pakistan and the U.S., he'd show his true colors.
Something like 2/3rds of Pakistani's think that Bin Laden's death was a bad thing, so this is probably the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan saving face.
Afghanistan siding with Pakistan in a US-Pakistani War is a one-way ticket to getting fucked.

His death, or the way the United States bypassed Pakistan and killed him?

Possibly both, knowing their possible corruptness.
American Foreign Policy:
Option A: Blow you the fuck up
Option B: Blow you the fuck up, train you to fight bad guys, then when you no longer come to our beckon call, we blow you the fuck up
I mean wow, how surprising that after destroying their country and abusing their citizens, Afghanistan isn't considering teaming up with us!
We need to go back to our foreign policy from the 18th century
STICK TO OURSELVES UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE PROVOKES US
