Following a decision Saturday, Berlin’s Unter den Linden avenue will soon be off limits to all private cars, allowing only buses, taxis, and bikes to ride along its mile’s length.
What if I drove an RC car down there?

Curious as to why? And if this is something we can see happening more?
Curious as to why? And if this is something we can see happening more?
To reduce the amount of cars in city centers, pollution concerns etc And we will definitely see this more in future
To reduce the amount of cars in city centers, pollution concerns etc And we will definitely see this more in future
and fucking thank god for that. It has been trialed a few times on some streets in Malmö too, it feels soooo much better to be outside without fucking cars blarin' and pollutin' to and fro. A lot less stressful
Curious as to why? And if this is something we can see happening more?
I've been told that this actually is pretty common in European cities, to ban cars in at the very least the old town areas and a couple of other places
Pedestrian-only streets was one of the best parts of my visit to Germany. I can't even imagine what certain historical locations would look like if the streets were packed with cars instead of left as open cobblestone plazas and pathways.
This isn't really a big deal, a street in Vancouver did this because it was just an enormous traffic sink that sucked for everybody due to the massive concentration of pedestrians. Didn't really affect me as a driver in the slightest.
Isnt this what the centre of oslo does?
Here's to hoping they let motorcycles under a certain CC still ride in there. Doubt it though.
Here's to hoping they let motorcycles under a certain CC still ride in there. Doubt it though.
Im sure the last thing they want after banning cars is the horrible noise of a 2stroke revving up and down there
Im sure the last thing they want after banning cars is the horrible noise of a 2stroke revving up and down there
Because everyone rides 2strokes...
Car traffic in innermost city centres is a bad idea to begin with.
really like the idea of re-pedestrianising inner city streets that weren't designed for modern traffic in the first place
Car traffic in innermost city centres is a bad idea to begin with.
If you allow small motorcycles, then mopeds goes too. And the moped-to-motorcycle radio in northern-ish part of Europe is staggering compared to down south.

There's quite a few RC cars that that dog would never be able to catch. [editline]9th November 2016[/editline] "off limits to all private cars, allowing only buses, taxis, and bikes to ride along its mile’s length" Oh so private cars are not okay, but taxis and loud ass buses are alright? "It's green, so it's okay!" This is the same shit that happens here in Lisbon. Fewer parking spaces, places where only buses and taxis can go, etc, only to discourage people from using something as convenient as a car and forcing people to take shitty, smelly, noisy, populated, always-late public transit instead. Congratulations. Man I'm glad I don't really travel to the heart of the city anymore.
I've been told that this actually is pretty common in European cities, to ban cars in at the very least the old town areas and a couple of other places
It's very common in Germany to have partial or even complete car bans in the inner city like that. It (eventually) effectively turns the whole area into a huge open air shopping mall, which is super nice compared to the indoor versions (imo).

Been a while since I was there but I remember you could drive downtown just fine, traffic was just ass and parking was worse but you could still do it.
Did they do this in Lisbon? Been a while since I was there but I remember you could drive downtown just fine, traffic was just ass and parking was worse but you could still do it.
There's a street close to Praça do Comércio that I once drove into while trying to go to a restaurant without realizing that the only lane available said "bus", so basically a street where only buses and taxis can go through. Utterly silly.
Car traffic in innermost city centres is a bad idea to begin with.
Depends on the planing, in our town they want to shut the center road by the central station for everything but city buses. But they forgot the detail that it's the only safe and good road if you want to go from the north to the south of town without massive delays or problems.
