Thinking that before the women's suffrage movements women were treated like cattle is ridiculous, jesus christ. Way to absolutely erase all the great and influential women (and groups of women) of the past. And yeah, taking the last word to insult the guest right before announcing that the time's up is a practice that is looked down upon by professionals everywhere. Demonstrating the absolute lack of integrity while talking to a fucking MRA of all people, YT, good job.
Might I just ask, what is wrong with being an MRA?
Fundamentally, nothing, it's just that an enormous amount of MRAs are horribly bigoted in one way or another. Most of the sane men and women who care about men's issues rally under feminism instead.
Might I just ask, what is wrong with being an MRA?
People who actually call themselves MRA tend to be quite a bit... insane. Think of radical *insert anything* - it's a marginalized group that isn't taken seriously, so they tend to often go overboard. And a large margin of them are outright nutters, which for a small community is a death sentence. They're the ones who are expected to be the retarded side of an interview. Not the interviewer.

If the bulk of the MRM was like her I would have no problem taking it seriously.
I've found that just like feminism, you don't hear the rational voices but when you actually find someone who identifies as an MRA, usually they have good and legitimate points. The other day, there was a huge comment war on Facebook about feminism and some stupid girl was saying that she deserves more rights than men because women are superior to men. I saw hundreds of women basically say "shut the fuck up, you're making us look bad" so they're definitely out there. Arguably, extremism in MRAs is just in response to extremism in the feminist community. Not that it excuses it, but don't let the edgelords cloud your judgement over an entire cause. Same goes for feminism.
Ah yes, because Facebook Bitch #472 is representative of the feminism movement.
Did I imply she was? I'm saying that the radicals are the ones who get noticed. Kill all men? Everyone heard about that. You don't hear the shrill voice of "women should have equal opportunity and rights" but based on my experience, when I find a feminist and I talk to them about their views, they're always moderates. I've only met one stereotypical Tumblr radical feminist in my life.
Most of the sane men and women who care about men's issues rally under feminism instead.
wouldnt that be egalitarianism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism
wouldnt that be egalitarianism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism
Should be, but the name is there now, and probably isn't going anywhere.
wouldnt that be egalitarianism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism
Yes. It is. Feminism is meant to be an egalitarian movement.
I hope to one day hear someone logically discuss Karen Straughan's views instead of just calling her a dumb woman who doesn't know any better and should be grateful for what she has.
Haven't really seen Cenk get rekt until now.
Haven't really seen Cenk get rekt until now.
Watch his Sam Harris interview. He gets pretty rekt there too. Cenk is a great reporter/analyst but he holds some pretty retarded views on some things.
wouldnt that be egalitarianism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism
Most times I've seen that brought up, they just seem to pile you under the bad-MRA category.
Most times I've seen that brought up, they just seem to pile you under the bad-MRA category.
Its very odd but yes. For some reason, a lot of third-wave feminists HATE egalitarianism as a general school of thought. And become actively repulsed by the notion that feminism is egalitarian. Which is bizarre yet telling.
Most times I've seen that brought up, they just seem to pile you under the bad-MRA category.
That's probably because most of the people who even bother using the term are either feminists trying to be pretentious, or MRAs trying to seem less bigoted than they are.
That's probably because most of the people who even bother using the term are either feminists trying to be pretentious, or MRAs trying to seem less bigoted than they are.
Most of the people I've seen use it are people who have only come into contact with the bigoted or radical feminists and thus associate "feminism" with those people. So they do a quick search for whatever term fits the belief of "all people should be equal" and they go with that instead. Personally I don't really find anything wrong with identifying as an egalitarian. It's basically the same ideology. But many people have way too strong of a "with us or against us" mentality and it results in chastising anyone who doesn't call themselves "feminist".
That's probably because most of the people who even bother using the term are either feminists trying to be pretentious, or MRAs trying to seem less bigoted than they are.
I use it because I approach it as it is, a broad topic covering equality for all, including things like class equality. I don't put a particular focus of the problems of women or GSMs as feminism does, so the only distinction that would actually make me more a feminist isn't there. Ergo, I am an egalitarian.
Ah yes, because Facebook Bitch #472 is representative of the feminism movement.
There is no representative of the feminist movement. Therefore, everyone is a representative of the feminist movement.
That's probably because most of the people who even bother using the term are either feminists trying to be pretentious, or MRAs trying to seem less bigoted than they are.
Do you have any examples of such?
There is no representative of the feminist movement. Therefore, everyone is a representative of the feminist movement.
Exactly. It was a fucking anecdote I used to demonstrate that there's a ton of moderate and rational people that are being drowned out by the "kill all men" crowd. Unfortunately, I rarely hear those voices and when I do, I agree with their ideological views but it's nice to see that they're out there. I don't let the "kill all men" crowd sour my views of feminism as a cause and you shouldn't let some Reddit stereotype sour your views of men's rights activism. Even Cenk during the interview admitted that there are legitimate causes for MRAs to exist, unfortunately she listed them and he started yelling that she's a radical.
