FBI chief sees no evidence of White House interference in Russia probe
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Thursday he has “not detected any whiff of interference” by the White House into the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Speaking publicly for the first time since being confirmed as head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wray also expressed confidence in Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia during the election.
“I can say very confidently that I have not detected any whiff of interference with that investigation,” Wray said during a panel discussion at the Intelligence and National Security Summit in Washington.
Wray was installed as FBI director after his predecessor, James Comey, was fired by Trump in May. In an interview with NBC after Comey’s removal, Trump admitted he was thinking about “this Russia thing” when he decided to fire the then-FBI chief.
This should go without saying. Trump and co are brain dead criminals but even they aren't dumb enough to do this with all the leaks happening.
Good - let's keep it that way.
I mean he straight up admitted that he fired comey because of the Russia investigation but OK rofl

I never understood what people were basing this claim off of, could someone please explain it to me.

I think this is specifically about Mueller's probe

Right there in the first post.
Right there in the first post.
In that same interview Donald said he was planning on firing Comey before any of that had even began. And he never said it was the reason he fired Comey as many people here try to push.
And, if you read the entire quote not that sliced up version in the OP, it's Trump ripping on democrats saying its a made up story by democrats to make him look bad.

Trump's own goddamn words.

He literally admitted it to Lester Holt on camera.

1) The first draft of Trump's termination letter for Comey, leaked to reporters, which heavily criticized the director for the Russian investigation and apparently made clear that it was the reason for his dismissal.
2) Trump's own admission.

No, he said he was planning on firing Comey before he received a recommendation letter from Rosenstein, not before the Russia investigation. He also literally word for word says that he fired Comey "because of the Russia thing". Stop being so dense.

The entire quote is
And in fact, when I decided to just do it [in reference to the firing], I said to myself- I said, you know... This Russia thing, with Trump and Russia, is a made up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election.
Let's not twist the facts. Yes, he ripped on the Dems for the "made up story", but only after explicitly linking it to Comey's firing
I never understood what people were basing this claim off of, could someone please explain it to me.
he litterally said "i fired comey because of the russia investigation." in a taped interview on national television.

A demonstration of the effectiveness of right-wing echo chambers, folks.

Let's be real here: the only reason you don't see it is because you are reaching desperately for an interpretation of Trump's words that somehow, against all logic, says the exact opposite of the thing he fucking said
It's OK to admit that trump said something self-incriminating. You will not burst into flames for doing so.
I know you all love to hate Trump but he's not brain-dead, He's not going to risk ruining his campaign for Russia. Though, he probably would have wanted to. Just give it up.

Trump, the paragon of intelligence, who would never have risked, say, his entire administration by heavily appearing to obstruct justice by firing Comey? Trump who would have never risked his own decency by grabbing them by the pussy and then blabbing about it while filming for TV? Are we even speaking about the same man? The one who exists in the real world seems pretty different from the one in your head.

Why be worried about bursting into flames when there's greater concern for the black vans showing up in the dead of night.
BTW if that should ever happen to you, we have a code-word for it: Mandarin
What can be understood by interference?
I mean, the investigation with or without Comey would go ahead, right?
Now, could we say the same if they erased, planted evidence or somehow manipulated people into not disclosing things? Then the investigation could come to a halt or be mis-directed towards other people.

Trump was blatantly attempting to have Comey make the investigation go away. When Comey didn't play ball, he was fired.
Trump was blatantly attempting to have Comey make the investigation go away. When Comey didn't play ball, he was fired.
Didn't Comey himself say him being fired didn't effect the investigation in anyway? And then the director put in his place said the exact same thing?

wtf is this then?

Just because it wasn't a successful move doesn't mean the attempt wasn't made.
It's still obstruction of justice if justice works around the obstacle.
Funny enough this same logic came up with Don Jr. and the meeting emails. "Well, nothing useful came out of the meeting, they just wanted to talk about adoption." Sure, but the meeting was still held on the premise of receiving damaging information about Hillary Clinton, even if the Russians didn't share any of that supposed info. Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it didn't happen. :v:
Attempted murder doesn't get ignored if the victim survives being left for dead.

Or if you attempt to rob a bank and it turns out there isn't any money in that particular bank.

Whether or not Comey's firing directly obstructed the investigation (or was even intended to) is an irrelevant technicality. What matters is that the firing occurred because Trump wanted Comey to obstruct the investigation, and Comey didn't do that.
Such a course of action probably made perfect sense to Trump, because Trump has a fundamental misunderstanding of how government works, specifically in this case the relationship between the president and the FBI. He was acting like the boss of a company, operating under the idea that Comey was a subordinate whom he could expect to follow implicit directives without question.
