• I was quite confused for a moment yesterday on the discussion of sleep.

So me, my friend, and our other friend/his girlfriend where talking about sleep (we drifted into this conversation, somehow), and stuff. She mentioned that dreams only last 3 seconds. But then I said that people can talk at normal pace in their sleep. Now when I think back to that it hurts my head :frown: Someone explain this to me, as now I can't decide if I'm right.
Dreams may feel like they last a long time, but in truth, they probably do only last about three seconds (That's the average length of dreams).

I do believe that they do, but what hurts my head is the fact that you can speak at least 10 words at normal pace which would normally take over 3 seconds anyway, and you do it again later on as well :frown:
It was probably just a dream. [editline]04:05PM[/editline] IIRC the longest recorded dream was over 2 hours.
Uh, no, it wasn't a dream.
Uh... That hurts my head.
Your friend's girlfriend only told you that to have sex with your friend behind your back.
IIRC the longest recorded dream was over 2 hours.
IIRC to that person the dream lasted for a few years, while he was actually in the REM state for only 2 hours or something like that. Imagine spending 2 years of your life, not knowing it's all a dream. And then when you wake up you have to get back to your "previous" boring life.
Gah my head. damn you! What would dreaming for 2 "years" feel like?
I don't know what to think because I remember falling asleep at 2:34 am once and dreaming almost like instantly (at least I think, can't be sure) and I had a dream and was startled out of sleep and it was like 4:00 am. So, I don't really know. Isn't it also uncommon to dream in colour? Because I dream in vibrant colour...
That 3 second thing is a myth. From Wikipedia:
Most dreams last only 5 to 20 minutes.
Source And don't say "It's Wikipedia so you can't completely trust it". That's a bunch of bullshit. Every fact in Wikipedia has to have a reference otherwise it's removed. Edit: And here's the source it references. http://science.howstuffworks.com/dream3.htm

Put away the crack dude
Dreams do not last for 3 seconds.
Put away the crack dude
What a shallow mind!

Sleep is one of the strangest states of mind we can have. I personally love it.
