Apple Sues Samsung Over Galaxy Series Phones And Tablets

[release]There may be a huge epic legal battle brewing between electronics giants Apple and Samsung. Apple has just filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics claiming the Korean company is copying the “look and feel” of their iPhone and iPad. The suit targets the Galaxy series including the Galaxy S smartphone line of Nexus S, Galaxy S 4G, and Epic 4G along with the Galaxy Tabs.

Apple filed the lawsuit on April 15 in the Northern District of California stating that specific Samsung products—as listed above—violated Apple’s intellectual property infringing on a number of the company’s patents. The filing document claims that Samsung not only copied the hardware shape, but copied core technology to even the screen icons. A glance at Apple’s 2009 and 2010 patents juxtaposed with Samsung’s Galaxy devices does show an astounding resemblance.

“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products,” the lawsuit said.
Apple is seeking injunctions, actual damages, punitive damages, and a finding of willful infringement.
“It’s no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging,” said an Apple representative. “This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.”
This will surely complicate the relationship between the two companies, as Samsung currently supplies various components for Apple’s iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod—touch, nano, and shuffle— as well as the flash components in Apple’s latest MacBook Air. Not only this, but Samsung manufactures Apple’s A4 and A5 processors, RAM modules, and display technologies.
Samsung has yet to comment, but we’ll keep you posted on further developments.

I have a galaxy s and it can do a hell of a lot more than the iPhone.
Apple is a bunch of cry babies, they sue everyone when they do something better than them,

Wow. They are really really similar looking.
Whatever, galaxy sucks anyway
Samsung is obviously trying to get would be iPhone users to buy their phone. It worked on my dad.
"Hi guys! I just got that new iPhone!"
"Nope."
Remarkably alike in physical appearance.
Anyone whos ever used both knows there completly different, hurry up with the cancer jobs.
But in reality, we all know that patents and copyrights are just the doing of the evil capitalist pig-dog oppressors who are trying to destroy the socialist proletariat.

Whether you like Apple or not, the fact is that Samsung's phone is incredibly similar to Apple's, which was patented first.
On top of that, wishing death by cancer on someone is awful, and despite how much it infuriates me that you take such a terrible condition lightly, I wouldn't even wish it on the likes of you.
I'm going to be honest, I hate touchscreen phones, I miss having to use buttons to make calls. And now companies believe in order to keep up with everything to make their phones touchcreen such as samsung.

Fact of the matter is that many haven't.
I hope you get all the cancers

The case holds, stop crying.

Haha Wow.
Well I guess because the fact apple iOS has a friendly feel, so i guess they tried to incorporate that into their touchwiz rfs software.
Wow. They are really really similar looking.
Devices reach a point where certain physical characteristics are a given in most of them, that this happened for a certain type of phone is an issue of no real significance. Several products look more similar than you notice because you weren't around when they were first being made and had a lot of variance.
People buy apple because of the branding anyway and that big Samsung on the top should stop someone who wants an iPhone somehow buying it by mistake one would hope.

Those aren't even remotely similar.
Considering Samsung produce components for many of Apple's devices this is like attempting to rob the same bank that you visit every day.
Those aren't even remotely similar.
Screen positioning, tool layout, application layout, power button layout, speaker position.
It's similar to what Apple is complaining about.

I've got a shitty LG phone from 3 or 4 years ago that I could say the same thing about, but it would be unbelievably moronic to do so.

The thing is that some design ideas have to be used because it's the most feasible thing to do.
Is a company expected to use text just because another company is using icons?
Apple is going to try and sue the Air for using the name of it's laptop that came first and created humanity as we know it.

What side are you on, you're just going back and forth
Most Galaxy S models aren't as similar looking.

I'm rollin around with that at$t version. Plan sucks. Phone and coverage kicks ass.
[sp]Toasting from it right now.[/sp]

This is the Galaxy S phone I have. Explain to me how it is like a [sp]fucking horrible[/sp] apple iphone..
Sure, the layout of the applications is similar. The shape is not. The bottom and top are curved, and the iphone is a brick (iirc?). Power button is on the top on my friend's iphone, My captivate's is on the side. Sure, volume control button is on the same side. Yes, there are buttons on the bottom of the phone; that doesn't mean they are taking the exact same design for all the Galaxy S phones. I will admit however, the phone in the OP does look a like (physically) like an iphone. The technology inside it (The Galaxy S) however is much better than pretty much any apple phone; One major thing that is different is the fact that Samsung doesn't follow apples rule. That being "Cram technology that's outdated and sluggish into a smaller package instead of cramming nice fast technology. Can't have that, it'd cost us more money!" Sure, call me biased, but I just really don't like apple; the fact that they are suing over this is pretty annoying. Apple, you have enough fucking money, just stop and continue to make your products that the masses oh so zealously love.

Release the droids!

The complaint is stupid but in both cases they are similar.
