Who the fuck was dumb enough to run the "delete everything" command on such an important system?

"Hahaha! Dude, this'll be fucking funny! I hope they have backups."

Probably some guy working for DreamWorks.
That's pretty insecure if they keep copies of unreleased movies outside of their office network.
Worked out in their favor that time.

Well, what if the animators are allowed to take the scenes home to work on them there?
I just see it from a security stand point. Office networks are behind massive and very complex firewalls. A lot of security is involved in big offices like that.
On that woman's private home network however...
Saw this on my Bluray of TS2. I find it funny how they describe all the assets slowly disappearing.

Things may be more strict these days, Toystory 2 was released in 1999 remember.
If I was working on a project like this, every terminal would have a sticky note on the monitor saying "If you run any command with 'RM' in it without asking me, I will cram a heatsink up your ass"
Couldn't they just recover all information from the disk since all RM* does is make the information overwritable?

obviously not

dreamworks spy
EDIT: shit...
I want to see a reenactment of this starring Jeff Goldblum
obviously not
Why not, just because you "permanently" deleted something it doesn't mean that it isn't there anymore, it's still on the hard disk.
This video reminds me of that one Dexter's Lab episode written by some kid

Oh yes.

They are lucky they had that copy.
I am amazed that none of you have even questioned the truth behind this video.
also RM* doesnt delete everything.
Did Danny Pudi work on Toy Story 2?
sudo rm -r /

I doubt they'd lie, it just says that they don't quite remember the command.
Still doesn't explain why in 21 years, no-one using Linux has worked out what user error is yet and why confirmation is a good thing.
It's like they probably demanded more money so they would threaten to delete it, that would've been cool. Just sayain.

Uh yeah sure. I can't quite believe that she made a backup of ALL the models, textures, sound, animation and whatnot just to show the movie to her kid. If anything she'd brought along an early render, and I don't believe they could salvage much from that.

She didn't have it to show it to her kid, she had it because she had a newborn and had to work at home.
Hey guys, I got a great idea. Let's go and press the history eraser button!
Why?
It'll be funny.

I'm kind of wondering how much hard drive space all of the movie with it's assets would have taken, I don't think a personal computers back then had such big hard drives.
sudo rm -r /
Now who is going to be the unlucky computer at school...
I never knew I saved a movie from being deleted.
