• Opinions on Careers in Cannabis

Lately i've been seriously considering chasing my dream of a career in the medical marijuana world. I've been looking at schools like Oaksterdam University and Cannabis Career Institute to help me get started in the field. What is DD's opinions/experiences with these institutions? Worth the money? Worth the time? Would it actually be a good place for me to start? If not what would be a good way to get into this business?
do you really need to go to a specialized school to learn how to grow a certain type of plant? It's not rocket science, it's more of a hobby. Consider getting a degree in business or the like at a regular state school. Minor in agriculture if you want. When you sell your product to dispensaries, they aren't going to look at where you went to school to determine if your weed is good. They are going to look at your weed to determine if it's good. In the long run it's about the product you produce, not the school you learned from.
Indeed, but going to a 'cannabis college' like those could only teach you the truth, and the best state of the art growing methods. However you can probably learn most, if not all of what they teach you online. Check out www.grasscity.com, last time I splurged on growing knowledge, they had their shit straight.
Started when i tried canabis, at first it was terribly fun, but now i dont even know anymore.
I guess i should re-iterate, i already know how to properly grow. The whole point of these schools would be to get me started in the industry. To put experience under my belt for getting a job at a dispensary or hopefully, one day, opening my own dispensary. Is it worth it for those aspects? Would it really give me the competitive edge for finding or making a job in this industry? Or maybe, would a better approach be to start out just legally growing and selling to dispensaries? Without going into detail, college is out of reach for me.
i'd say get a high quality, cost efficient grow room going, document everything in an organized fashion (like a grow log for every strain) and sell to dispensaries. Later, when you really want to step it up in the pot industry, show the higher-ups your documentation of your grow room, showing that you really know your shit when it comes to growing. just remember: you can do anything you want if you put your heart into it and never, EVER give up.
