When I saw "Nanjing", I knew what this was.

I'm pretty sure they didn't have full color videos of the experiment, nor even high-quality full color pictures. A lot of that gore was completely unnecessary.

That explains why they spent half of the video on the religious beliefs of the japanese regarding their emperor. Seems that part of the point of the video is to blame this on shinto.
