I saw this earlier today and have not seen any threads about it so I thought I would post. I really hope this has not been posted but I did search for any threads that had this in it, article was posted today.

The Steamboxes are here! Well ... [I]sort of[/I]. The prototypes for various [URL="http://www.engadget.com/tag/steambox"]Steambox[/URL]designs are certainly here at [URL="http://www.engadget.com/event/ces2013/articles/"]CES 2013[/URL], and we just spent a grip of time acquainting our lenses [I]very[/I] closely with them. The devices range in size and form factor, as well as origin -- several of the devices we saw originate from Valve internal, but inclusions like [URL="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/17/alienware-announces-x51-for-699/"]Alienware's X51[/URL] and [URL="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/24/digital-storm-bolt-stuffs-full-power-graphics-into-a-mini-gaming-pc/"]Digital Storm's Bolt[/URL] were also being held up as examples of the ongoing "Steam in your living room" initiative (note: all the controllers are off-the-shelf Logitech wireless devices, not prototypes). The idea here, as Valve hardware engineer Jeff Keyzer told us, was to show off a variety of form factors for living room-friendly designs. We'll have more from our meeting later today, but for now you can feast your eyes on the elegant prototypes -- as well as [URL="http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/hands-on-with-xi3s-piston-modular-pc-at-ces/"]Xi3's Piston[/URL], and the aforementioned other two third-party PCs -- that we'll be sure to see more of as 2013 goes on.

I hope I can use an Xbox controller, those in my mind are the best and most comfortable controllers.

it's a PC, you can plug whatever you want into it. The F710 is recognised as a 360 controller and that seems to be what they're pushing as "the" controller for it, so yeah.

I don't know, I just find it weird to ship with third party controllers instead of their own. Since they do not have prototype controllers or anything I am just speculating.
I'd prefer using my Xbox controller, or at least something with that style since I'm much more attuned to it.

In my personal opinion everything about the Xbox controller is nearly perfect, except for its d-pad. That damn thing is a huge blemish on a nearly perfect design. The thing sucks for 2D games.
the controllers were advertised during the big picture promotions, not really surprised they would use them

The shape isn't the problem, it just doesn't really give you any feed back. It feels like your tilting it rather than hitting button.
I hope the end product has the steam logo on it, embossed or engraved on the top.

MadCatz controllers have proper D-pads. I won't argue against the fact that the rest of the controller is shit, however.
