The mother of a 12-year-old girl who plummeted 30m on an amusement park ride — crashing into concrete on her back — says it is a miracle her daughter lived. Teagan Marti was at the top of the Terminal Velocity ride Extreme World in Wisconsin when the ordeal began, the Associated Press reports. Participants are taken to the top of the ride on a platform before they are dropped, without a bungee cord or safety rope, into a net below.
Source: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/7949114/girl-lands-on-back-in-nightmare-ride-plunge Relevent. The parents are taking legal action. And the fact she fell from the top of that makes me amazed she lived.
post how it happened in the op too
]She slammed into the concrete and landed on her back, suffering severe swelling in her brain and fractures in her spine, pelvis, spleen and intestines.
If she's not dead now, sadly I think she will be. Those aren't things you just bounce back from. And since I accidentally did it: in before "Looks like she won't bounce back from that one!"
Looks like the ride was a smash hit! :v: But holy crap, how could she live from that? ~90 ft fall should be lethal, maybe it's cause she landed flat on her back and spread out the force?
Why the fuck would you take part in a ride with no safety harnesses or the like?
If she's not dead now, sadly I think she will be.
While I know what you mean, this sounds so universally obvious that you can say it about everyone. And I don't know about you, but this "amusement ride" doesn't sound like something I'd wanna do. Even before knowing someone got hurt, this doesn't seem like a good idea.
shocki-- oh wait. wrong story :[
Wow, I gasped and had a feeling of vertigo when that guy dropped in the video. No way in fucking hell I'd do that, not even if there was safety equipment. :ohdear:
At least the thing stays true to its name.
Jesus christ there goes her spine
I bet she hit terminal velocity.
Oh god!
"She was bleeding out of her ears and mouth and nose,"
Made me cringe. Just to think about a 12 year old girl in an amusement park bleeding like that feels so horrible.
Why the fuck would you take part in a ride with no safety harnesses or the like?
The ride itself is safe, this was human error.

talk about an insanely severe backlash to the operator... Firing him and fining him is usually what happens regarding workrelated accidents.
One of my biggest fears Falling of a ride
Why the fuck would you take part in a ride with no safety harnesses or the like?
What mom would let a 12yr old girl be dropped that far with nothing to save her but a net? In fact, who would allow anyone under 18 to do it? If you're an adult and want to risk it that's one thing. It'd be bad enough with a bungie cord. You could get tangled, hit some of the metal pieces, etc. Just free falling? That's going full mentally challenged.
$10 she was 250+ lbs and broke through the net.
Op's video makes me never want to go on a rollercoaster. Ever. EVER
The ride's operator has been charged with one count of first degree reckless injury. He faces up to 25 years in jail and over $100,000 in fines.
This is why you should never be nonchalant when it comes to operating machinery.

All she can do right now is open her mouth to eat and talk, though, if I'm not remembering it incorrectly. The only thing that could make this go wrong is someone fucking it up, which in this case happened.
It'd be bad enough with a bungie cord. Person who was operating the ride never raised the safety net which was supposed to catch her. It was still on the ground or was in the process of being raised after he figured out what he did. He and or the park are most likely going to get sued. Guy is in jail. Also this is about a month old.

There's a big, big difference between you living your day to day life and getting fucked over, and you going out looking to get fucked over. This girl's entire life has changed, for the worse, due to a bone headed decision to let her on that ride. If whoever was minding her(mom or whoever else) had simply said "No you can't go on that" there'd be no problem no matter what the ride operator did.
That video in the OP is pretty intense.
