No matter how you twist it, having a blind man behind the wheel of a car is a recipe for disaster.

He wasn't allowed, he had a provisional licence which he had before he went blind, although he was banned he will never be able to get a full licence. He drove his friend's car.

I guess they just got in his blind spot.

He got a provisional licence (a licence to learn to drive with) when he could see, and so he was banned using that. Although technically as he failed to declare he was blind, that licence was void anyway.
