For its report "Punished for Protesting", Human Rights Watch says it interviewed more than 90 people
Venezuelan security forces are accused of illegally detaining and abusing opposition protesters in a report by Human Rights Watch (HRW).
The report says that in some cases troops used torture, including threats of rape and execution.
More than 40 people have died since protests began in early February, with more than 2,000 people arrested.
Protests began with students demanding action to tackle high crime rates, inflation and basic food shortages.
They grew into a wider opposition movement - demanding the resignation of President Nicolas Maduro - but demonstrations have slowed in recent weeks.
For its report "Punished for Protesting", New-York based HRW says it interviewed more than 90 people including victims, their relatives and lawyers who advised them.
"In most of the cases we documented, security forces employed unlawful force, including shooting and severely beating unarmed individuals," the report says.
"Nearly all of the victims were also arrested and, while in detention, subjected to physical and psychological abuse."
HRW alleges 10 cases of torture including incidents of electric shocks, burns and threats of rape or execution.
Godwin's law in one post.
I'm impressed.
Godwin's law in one post.

Godwin' Law is primarily about references to Hitler, Nazism, or the Holocaust in situations where it irrelevant. Talking about healthcare reform and going "Yeah, well the Nazis wanted this done with their healthcare system!" would actually be invoking Godwin. But saying "Stalin, the Khmer Rouge, and the Kim Il Sung family are responsible for murdering mass groups of civilians." and someone else following up with "As did the Nazis in Germany." is not because it is actually relevant.
So its arguable when talking about opposition groups facing cruel crackdown and the people responsible still receiving support of the people that mentioning Hitler isn't invoking Godwin.
Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Nazis – often referred to as "playing the Hitler card". The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering known mainstays of Nazi Germany such as genocide, eugenics, or racial superiority, nor, more debatably, to a discussion of other totalitarian regimes or ideologies, if that was the explicit topic of conversation, since a Nazi comparison in those circumstances may be appropriate,
more like have been since protests started
Thats intersting, because ive seen people just going to protests and calling an assassination of Maduro, and the deposition of his "socialist dictatorship", with a lot of vandalism involved and, of course, the support of the media. Just remember what happened during Hugo Chavez government, people said he was authoritarian while he closed radio stations after they told people to murder him. Oh, and yes Venezuela lives because of the oil( one of the biggest reserves in the world ) and gas they have.
