• Why a half life movie hasn't happened yet and if it does, Valve will be making it.

You know that terrible half-life movie that hollywood made? Oh wait, it didn't happen because Valve isn't about to let Micheal Bay or Uwe Boll ruin it. It also turns out that the "Meet the Team" videos were an experiment to see if it could be done at all.
The hilarious, universally acclaimed "Meet the Team" shorts for Team Fortress 2 are more than fan service or game promotion. Valve founder Gabe Newell says they're experiments in movie-making, because the studio would prefer to do a Half-Life movie itself. Speaking to PC Gamer, Newell says Hollywood bombarded Valve with story pitches for a Half-Life movie, not long after the first game shipped in 1998. "Their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst," Newell said. "Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of." Newell said the team reached a consensus to not sign a movie deal, because the only way it would be done right was if it made the film itself. "And I was like, ‘Make it ourselves? Well that's impossible,'" Newell said. "But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet The Team shorts, is us trying to explore that." It's a leap from animated, comedic shorts to a feature-length science-fiction drama, so at this rate, it's more likely that Half-Life: The Movie doesn't get made. But good on Newell and company for staying committed to seeing something done right, if it's done at all. "As a [World of Warcraft] player, I would much rather that the WoW team made the movie, right?" Newell said. "I like Sam Raimi, I've been a fan ever since Evil Dead came out, but I would rather see Blizzard making the movie. We think that customers are like, ‘OK, we're kind of sick and tired of the way you guys are slicing and dicing the experience of being a fan of Harry Potter, or Half-Life, or The Incredibles, and you need to fix it.' And the people that fix it will be rewarded, and the people that don't will be on the rubbish heap of history, or whatever the phrase is."

[b]"Their stories were just so bad. We'll see it in 10 years, Valve Time.
Its the same way Pixar started....we'll have to wait and see what happens...
YES! FUCKING DO IT! Valve Studios is Best Studios.
We'll see it in 10 years, Valve Time.
Gabe will be gone. :smithicide:
A Half-Life movie not following Gordon Freeman would be cool. Or completely change it so Gordon has a voice, and it's Hugh Laurie playing him.
Any video or movie from valve is welcome. Just as long as they stop delaying games :argh:
It'll be released the same time as Episode 3...
Gabe will be gone. :smithicide:
why's that does he have cancer or something
Valve BETTER make it, else it'll be total shit.
I thought it was a bad movie idea cause Gordon never talks.
why's that does he have cancer or something
he's fat
I thought it was a bad movie idea cause Gordon never talks.
Make a silent movie :downsrim:
I thought it was a bad movie idea cause Gordon never talks.
That could be a great innovation for movies. A silent protagonist. It could work well. I would hope it's made on whatever decendant of Source VALVe is using then. It could be the first Machinima to hit the silver screen. :buddy:
I thought it was a bad movie idea cause Gordon never talks.
I always thought a good idea would be perspective from people in a town near Black Mesa, but had no idea of it's presence. See how the storms affect them, up to the 7 Hour War...
We'll see it in 10 years, Valve Time.
ironically, if it were done by hollywood, it would come out much sooner. But the wait will probably be worth it.
I want an animated movie made by the Blizzard cinematics team. That shit would look ten times better than Avatar.
I'd hope it has nothing to do with Gordon. It'd be weird having him not talk the whole time, and if he did talk, I'd walk right outta the theater. Maybe from the point of a rebel or citizen.
ironically, if it were done by hollywood, it would come out much sooner. But the wait will probably be worth it.
Do you even know what ironic means?
It should cover the portal storms and the 7 hour war and the suppression field, then the protagonist dies at the end.
It would not be fun to see Gordon Freeman suddenly talking, and it would also not be fun if he is silent for a whole movie. Having him not in the movie would be even worse. I think Valve should stick to making games and short movies.
Knowing Valve, I will be the fucking president of my country before they release a railer... They take years to finish a game, and they are experienced in that field... let alone something they do not know... (but its a good thing that they take that muc htime, though.)
Like the article said, it will probably never happen. But in my opinion, I'd rather have it never be made, than it be made by some crappy Hollywood director.
It must be a cg movie. Live action movie about hl would "kill my childhood"

Good on Valve. They could have easily made a ton of money from signing such a deal, but they held out and didn't sell out :3: Personally I think if a half life movie ever got made, it could never follow Gordon Freeman, only be a movie set within the HL universe. The way the story telling happens in all four games (the immersion, seamless gameplay, no character dialogue etc) allows the player to actually be the protagonist, rather than be someone controlling the protagonist. I've always thought some War of the Worlds style portrayal of the 7 hour war would make an awesome movie.
Do you even know what ironic means?
I don't think he knows much anything based on his post history
he's fat
So? Doesn't mean he's gonna die in 10 years. I'm sure that if his weight became a health issue he'd fix it, otherwise just leave him be.
Reminds me of that one trailer: Law Abiding Engineer. That would be killer.
