Hey guys! Recently (as in in the last year) I have begun composing my own instrumental pieces, almost all on the piano. I have been looking for any kind of constructive criticism or opinions, basically anything at all. Thanks to anyone who gives them a listen. Keep in mind I have only been playing for about a year, and most of these recordings were on a whim, so please excuse (if you can) any mistakes. Only had time to listen to the first one; You sure you want to use that much pedal? it makes it sound very wishy-washy kind of messy. I'd suggest using less pedal unless you're absolutely sure you want to use that much pedal. either that or it's your piano...
It's probably my piano, never been tuned as far as we (my family) knows. Really old upright as well, although it's a lot of me too. I just absolutely love it. Maybe it sounds bad on camera.
you need to calm down and play to a metronome, your rhythm is all over the place. besides that though, some interesting melodic ideas, reminds me a bit of debussy. are you self-taught?
I am self taught, and my idol is indeed Debussy! I am honored that you compared me even to him, and thanks for the advice.
hah i wasn't comparing you to him, i just meant that you've obviously listened a lot to his pieces. for a self-taught pianist this is quite good, definitely continue and look into getting some lessons, you have a knack for it.
Well, thanks anyway. I surely plan to continue, and play as much as I can.
Maybe the left hand a little softer in the piece Untitled Piece (1)?
Pretty good, with enough practice you can start lessons.
Just so you know guys, these recordings are from a couple months ago, mid-late December. If you want, I can post one of my most recent pieces? I think my technique has improved quite a bit, if of course you are interested.
They sound good to me, but I don't know anything about piano so I can't really say
You seem to like using the dynamics mf to fff. There are some spots that could be a lot quieter. You also seem like you have all of the muscles in your fingers working at the same time. Loosen up and it will help the dynamics. Also. Either get the piano tuned (just go to your local music store and it shouldn't be that much money at all), or get a keyboard. Overall, really good for self-taught. If you don't already, I would learn the two clefs Treble Clef and Bass Clef. Just take rhymes you can find on the internet such as EGBDF, EGBDF, These are the lines of the Treble Clef Huh! FACE (clap!) FACE, These are the spaces of the Treble Clef Huh! If it sounded like I was mean I'm sorry.
