EDIT: You're all missing the point of the thread with a mile. The story is just a sample of a 'what if', and is not the main point of the thread. You are reading this now thanks to a random series of events. Coincidences that lead you to this point in life. Some people call it ”destiny” It is amazing – mind blowing even to think about what could have been. What if your dad had forgotten his study books that summer of ’69. Maybe he’d have to go back to get them, and he’d been hit by a car. You would have never existed. This is of course an arbitrary example. All of you are probably wondering how this is related to Halo and how it saved my life. Well, if you’re patient, I’ll get to that. Every day you make decisions that change your life, whether you know it or not. Spending that extra minute reading this thread might’ve won you a million dollars, or made you die from smoking 10 years from now. It’s impossible to foresee the future. And although millions of these tiny coincidences determine your life every day, this is the one I can remember best, and the one I can connect to all points in the past. So, storytime: It was a rainy day in 2004. I was not interested in gaming whatsoever. My best friend gave me a call that day, telling me about this new thing called “Halo.” I thought to myself “Fine, I’ll play this demo thing.” That was a great decision. I do not know whether or not it was better than the alternative, but I am most defiantly pleased with the outcome. I loved the demo and bought the full game. From this point on I got interested in gaming. Browsing some gaming videos in 2005 I stumbled across this video game modification called “Garry’s mod”. I loved the concept and thought I’d give it a shot. Hot damn, it was good. Quite soon though, problems arose within the game, and I had to make an account on this internet forum called “Facepunch.” I posted a few posts, then disappeared for a few years. Early 2008 I found a peace of paper when renovating my room with a username and password to this “Facepunch.” I started posting again. I visited the Photoshop contests section of the forum and quickly developed an interest for Photoshop. After a while I got a bit bored and migrated to the Creationism corner part of Facepunch. There I started developing an interest for photography. April 2009 I had to make a decision – what college should I go to? At that time I owned an SLR and I was snapping hipster shots in every which way. I decided on an arts college that focuses on photography, journalism and graphic design. The grade to get in was an A, so I worked really hard for the last quarter of the year, and – well, I did it. Keep in mind this is because of Facepunch, and I know of Facepunch because of Gmod, which I learned about through Halo. I'm currently a second grade student at this college. I don’t take hipster photographs any more, but rather actual pictures. In this college I’ve met a lot of great people: A girl I like where I believe the feeling is mutual, whom I am taking out to the cinemas, followed by dinner tomorrow - and a friend who has great contacts that got me in touch with a newspaper editor so that I got a job. From Halo to an aspiring social life and a bright looking future. The point and moral of this story is not supposed to be surrounding me, but rather that every action you do is like a seed. You plant it, and it grows. Some grow to become huge trees, others are merely shrubs. Don’t take these seeds for granted. It’s not only the big decisions that have an impact on your life. I now want you to think about what you’re pleased about with yourself, and then reminisce on how you got to that point.
You are a sad, sad man.
Whether not weather like 5x
it's odd how very small things start chain reaction.
Title lies, halo cannot improve your life.
So? Half-Life 2 influenced me. It's not really a difference. Influences are influences.
it's odd how very small things start chain reaction.
Don't work at a nuclear power plant.
Life chaning story.. rated artistic to
I don't know what to say honestly. Good for you I guess?
Don't work at a nuclear power plant.
He could do a better job than the staff at Chernobyl.
That's a dumb way of looking at things OP. HEY YOUR FRIEND WAS THE ONE WHO SHOWED YOU HALO SO YOUR FRIEND CHANGED YOUR LIFE. OH WAIT YOUR FRIEND WOULDN'T EXIST IF HIS MOM DIDN'T HAVE SEX WITH HIS DAD. OH WAIT EVEN IF THEY DID AND HIS DAD DIDNT FAP THAT ONE TIME, THE EXACT SPERM THAT MADE YOUR FRIEND WOULDNT HAVE MET THE EGG. HOREY SHET
Halo ruined my life.

But what happened that allowed you to pick up the phone from your friend in time? And what made your friend find Halo? You could be where you are today because of anything, crazy shit Still, good to hear your life is turning out good :buddy:
The story is an example to the main point. It isn't the point itself. I guess I was a bit vague. I can add a "Waste of time" stamp to the OP if you guys think so.
Tell the girl you like that you are there because of Halo.
I took a shit read a newspaper article about someone saving kids from fires. Now today I am a super hero. It all started with my shit.
Title lies, halo cannot improve your life.
Halo is just a gateway game to Garry's Mod. WE MUST BAN THESE VIDEO GAMES. :siren:
Your life must have been pretty bad. could you do a TL;DR for us, please?
your story has greatly impacted my life
Your story made me feel great while I was reading it. Then I realized it was about you, not me.
I remember playing Halo 1 in 2001, played it till 2008 when I first heard about steam. I played hl1 when it first came out but I don't recall it being on steam, I was young then Anyway, Halo Custom Edition was fun
Halo made me spend hundreds of dollars on and Xbox and three 360s, which could have been spent on drugs. Thanks for saving me from a life of substance abuse, Halo!
I actually found garry's mod via a friend who played halo, we used to snipe the people in Jets on a map called Cold-something.
Rule #2 about women: If you think she likes you, you're wrong.
I thought I was going to read that you stayed at a friend's house to play halo, and managed to be late to school and that you were saved from getting killed in a school shooting that would happen that day :| I'm dissapoint.
Halo was the first PC game I played as well! (online, at least) I remember playing it in late 2006 on my shitty laptop. From there I bought a new computer in 2007 (prebuilt, but it had a decent graphics card) and started playing CS:S. That's when I heard about Garry's Mod. I bought it in early 2008 and loved it. In May I had issues with the game and created an account on the game's official forms, Facepunch, for support. Soon I became a frequent Facepunch poster. Facepunch was the first place I heard of the obscure hobby of urban exploration, through threads containing images of amazing and beautiful abandoned places. I started doing research into the subject, and realized that I live within walking distance of one of the most popular urban exploration sites on the east coast. I had been living in ignorance of my town's own history and culture until that point. From there I learned a ton of obscure facts about my community, city, and state's history that not even my history teachers were aware of. I became more interested in history (it had always been my strongest subject in school), and recently went on my first exploration of a massive abandoned mental hospital in my city. So yeah, if I'm ever arrested or contract mesothelioma in forty years, I guess I have Halo to thank for setting up my "destiny." :v:
-snip-
Didn't Halo: Combat Evolved come out in 2001? In 2004, that is not a new thing. EDIT: Oh, for PC then.
what a joke
