I'm curious how said man didn't notice the van, it can't have been going fast based on that slope.
Shame though, not a nice way to go.

It can go pretty fast, and old people are fragile. And when it rolls it barely makes a sound other than the tires rolling. I can definitely see how it happened.

He had a walking stick, he might have noticed but couldn't move quick enough

What a horrible feeling it must be to see an on coming van and be unable to escape it's path in time.
why didn't they tasered him? ...fucking cops

Taser...him? The Pensioner?? What is wrong with you.
On subject, this makes me sad to see/read. Poor guy.

It doesn't matter if it is not going very fast. It is quiet and has a lot of power behind it, if the old man didn't hear or see it in time he might not have been able to move out of the way and there is no way in hell he could stop it. A few years ago some idiot left the handbrake off in their van on my street which has a slope much shallower than the one in the picture. It rolled maybe 10 meters and knocked down a brick wall.
I feel sorry for the police officers who probably feel immensely guilty and depressed at this moment
I kinda hope the officer doesn't get any jail time, he must be feeling like shit as it is.

It would be manslaughter at most but chances are they will say it was an accident.
This is why you're supposed to turn the wheels towards the curb

Or leave it in gear
or put the handbrake on
don't mean to sound heartless but at least it wasn't a kid

On the flip side, if it was a kid they might have lived.
would this have made the headlines if it wasnt a police van but instead a civilian's van
Does it matter?
immensely

WHY DIDNT THEY SHOOT HIM IN THE KNEE CAPS TO DISABLE LIKE THEY ARE TRAINED TO?!!!!!!?!
/sarcasm
What?
I think he was trying to say that the word 'prisoner' and the word 'pensioner' look alike, so he got confused and read 'prisoner' instead.
Then he... went full retard...
This isn't a bad way to go at all, I mean, he got the blunt head first, instant death.
A horrible thing, yet I'm sure it could have been much worse.
