Musician Sivu lies in an MRI scanner, repeatedly singing his new song "Better Man Than He," for almost three hours to make the three-minute video.
Source, CNET This video is fucking awesome... I'd say it's sensational.
Too bad the music sucks.
Awesome video, not really feeling the song though. Great work nonetheless.
Lo lo lo lo lo lo Lo lo lo lo lo lo Lo lo lo lo lo lo lo~
I don't see why the music video is impressive, why would anyone be amazed by MRI scans?
I don't see why the music video is impressive, why would anyone be amazed by MRI scans?
because you can see whats going on in his head while he's singing?
Too bad the music sucks.
it's a pretty good song actually.
Tongues are weird jesus christ get it out of me.
I don't see why the music video is impressive, why would anyone be amazed by MRI scans?
It looks cool.
I actually enjoyed the music a bit. Not something I'll listen to repeatedly, but it wasn't bad to me.
imho i had to listen to it a few times to like it. now i really like it.
Awesome, you can see him breathing in and swallowing during breaks, even see his nose airways close up when he sings.
why did he have to sit there for 3 hours if it was a realtime scan? i don't know anything about MRI please explain
I took an MRI not too long ago the technician gave me earphones to cover up the noise from the machine, so the resulting combination of jazz and background noise sounded like dubstep
why did he have to sit there for 3 hours if it was a realtime scan? i don't know anything about MRI please explain
I'm no expert on MRIs but I'm pretty sure they're not very fast. In other words the 'frame rate' was probably pretty low, so I guess the guy lip-synced the song in slow motion so they could speed it up so that it would look smoother. That's just my guess, but I think it's likely how they did it.
Its neat seeing how we form syllables.
why did he have to sit there for 3 hours if it was a realtime scan? i don't know anything about MRI please explain
why does it take an absurdly long time to film anything? you got to do re-takes. i'm not too savvy with mri's either but it looks like there were several different scans that were performed to show different things. plus if he fucks up he has to redo the song.
Was this his lyrical inspiration?
why did he have to sit there for 3 hours if it was a realtime scan? i don't know anything about MRI please explain
Afaik MRI's take forever because they scan in paper thin layers like when you see him singing. The part starting at 0:41 is probably what took so long.

[editline]30th January 2013[/editline] trying to sync it up as a stop-motion i mean.
What I loved was how the tongue changed shape for the pitch of the sound which reflected what I would feel trying to sing it. More of a deep mirroring rather than simple seeing someone sing, I can see the sensations that is going on in their body as I experience it. Pretty awesome.

isn't being in a MRI for that long dangerous?
isn't being in a MRI for that long dangerous?
MRI = Magnetic Resonance Imaging Magnetic fields aren't dangerous.
MRI = Magnetic Resonance Imaging Magnetic fields aren't dangerous.
Except when you have metal plates in your face like I do, then it can cause minor discomfort. If I ever have an accident I have to tell them so they can use special settings for me.
I keep reading the title as "Mexican uses real-time..."
I would have found a scanned image of his brain with coloring for activity a lot more interesting.
MRI with some cheap after effects thrown in, bleh.
I would have found a scanned image of his brain with coloring for activity a lot more interesting.
Indeed, those fucking distortions, color effects and constant switching around of pictures ruined it for me. I was hoping it would just be a still MRI scan while he sings to properly see brain activity when he does so. Oh well, I guess this is supposed to appease to the general public and not a neuroscientist :v:
The way the tongue and other mouth muscles flex and change shape and you can hear exactly what each movement is doing to the vocal is amazing The sound is pretty chill. If he got rid of the lo lo lo it'd be great. [editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
MRI with some cheap after effects thrown in, bleh.
some cheap after effects and 3D renders of his head taken with medical equipement, it's an alright balance lower your standards facepunch :/
