MOUNT ST. HELENS, Wash. — A climber has fallen into the crater at Mount St. Helens and a rescue is under way. The Skamania County sheriff's says it received a 911 cell phone call for help about 1 p.m. Monday. Undersheriff Dave Cox says a helicopter that does contract work for the U.S. Geological Survey spotted the climber on a steep slope near the bottom of the crater but was unable to pick him up because of high winds and whiteout conditions. Cox says a Coast Guard rescue helicopter has been called but it's uncertain if the climber can be rescued before dark. A ground rescue team is being organized. The sheriff's office says the climber's condition is unknown but he's blowing a rescue whistle.
Source Give it a few decades. He'll come out just fine. Yeah, I know. I forgot to put an "s" after "fall."
A ground rescue team is being organized. He'll get out soon enough.
Slow news day?
From what I understand, the volcano is still active and the magma is still raising (albeit slowly). I must have fallen through a glacier hole and landed in a cave. Amazing that there was cell phone coverage.
He probably has Verizon.
So he can't get out? Shows how good a climber he is... :colbert:
So he can't get out? Shows how good a climber he is... :colbert:
possible broken limbs?
He probably has Verizon.
Verizon will probably add this event to their commercial.
I've seen crater things happen before.
Wouldn't it suck if him falling in set it off?
You have to be a complete dumbass to be able to fall into a crator. Omg.

smart man i want to be like him when i grow up
I wonder what he died from.
He cratered himself.
I wonder what he died from.
He fell 1,500 feet so probably from the impact.
He fell 1,500 feet so probably from the impact.
Unless he had a heart attack on the way down before impact.
Unless he had a heart attack on the way down before impact.
So the ground gave way, he fell 1500ft and had a heart attack on the way down which killed him, THEN proceeded to spend hours blowing a whistle trying to get rescued? Sweet zombie mountain climbers batman!
