LOS ANGELES/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co plans to shut the 30-year-old LucasArts studio it inherited with the acquisition of George Lucas' film company last year, and focus on licensing its "Star Wars" brand externally, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-rt-us-disney-lucasartsbre9320yh-20130403,0,7727543.story God fucking dammit Disney.
I saw this coming tbh.

Why would you purchase something, then throw it away as soon as you get home?
George Lucas did such a cuntish move selling it to Disney. It was obvious they would fuck it all up.
Disney confirmed for new EA.
George Lucas did such a cuntish move selling it to Disney. It was obvious they would fuck it all up.
Yeah, it wasn't like he needed the money or anything. You'd think he wouldn't want to see his creation soiled further.
Yeah, it wasn't like he needed the money or anything. Someone posted that on SH.
LucasArts should just reform and make cool stuff. It's not like they'd struggle to find investment, and the LucasArts name was pretty stale since George Lucas left anyway.
I have to admit I also fully expected them to cut or restructure things a bit, but this just takes the cake. Essentially, they've just gone and said a big FUCK YOU to any old Lucasarts fans and people who enjoy decent Star Wars gaming titles. Just watch as they backtrack and decide to produce that 'Detours' shit after all.

Nope none everything decent was outsourced and the only thing they've really made was force unleashed and that was gawd awful.
why did disney even brought LucasArt if they was just going to shut it down a few months later. Bad investment?

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! my childhood! 800th post :toot: :toot:
George Lucas did such a cuntish move selling it to Disney. It was obvious they would fuck it all up.
How was it obvious? Lucas acted like a total idiot so any change was seen as an improvement. Lucas Arts has failed to deliver good games in quite some time. We're still going to get Star Wars games. I hope Obsidian can get their hands on KOTOR because post SWTOR one of the head guys said that KOTOR 3 is still a possibility. Which reminds me, Lucas Arts fucked up KOTOR2. Good riddance.

That's really it though.
no one who made all the good games by lucasarts are at lucasarts any more, why would Disney keep a studio that doesn't produce anything good open? they're literally useless
Star Wars 4 kidz

The funny thing is that after all those years, 1313 was developed by LucasArts and was actually looking good and now they shut it down
On the bright side, the talent from LucasArts (if there is any left) will be able to either found their own studios or join someone else's.

Fuck you, Disney. Or at least the person who made this decision, fuck you, fuck you, FUCK YOU! LucasArts itself made such an epic game as Republic Commando, and I always had a hope that someday there will be Republic Commando 2 or something,[sp] to save Sev at least,[/sp] but now I have less hope. I will just hope that a good developer will take the initiative and develop a good sequel. I hope...I hope... + there was a rumor that "if SW: First Assault will be successful on XBL, they will develop Battlefront III". No more First Assault, no more Battlefront III.... P.S. Fuck you, Disney.

Let's wait and see before being scared into buying a cheap side project. What a sad marketing tactic. Be happy that they're gone. They're the ones that stopped BF3 from coming out in the first place.
i kinda just assumed with the studios closure the workers would be fired im not surprised. besides what has lucasarts put out recently anyway
LucasArts should just reform and make cool stuff.
That'd be like, the third time.
Jeez Disney. First announcing that you but Marvel and used their characters on the side for your crappy Disney cartoons, then you buy LucasFilms and fucking Star Wars, from a man who sold it because he thought the world was going to end, and like Marvel, used it's characters in you're crappy sitcoms, Then you announce that you're not going to produce any more traditionally drawn animated films anymore, then you close LucasArts games, and now here you are about to lay off it's workers. Man Disney you've lost you're magic.
Then you announce that you're not going to produce any more traditionally drawn animated films anymore

"To my knowledge we're not developing a 2D or hand-drawn feature animated film right now," said Iger. "There is a fair amount of activity going on in hand-drawn animation but it's largely for television at this point. We're not necessarily ruling out the possibility [of] a feature but there isn't any in development at the company at the moment."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2013/mar/07/disney-hand-drawn-animation
http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2013/mar/07/disney-hand-drawn-animation
Ok I didn't hear that :v: I was going off another Facepunch SH thread that said that. Still.
Why would you purchase something, then throw it away as soon as you get home?
With a library of games under its belt and no recent development they saw LuicasArts fit for being liquidated as they didn't want the studio but the rights to all the games it developed. It's similar in ways to what EA and Activision do.
