AUSTIN, Texas - A proposal seeking full legalization of marijuana on religious grounds has some Texas marijuana advocates celebrating. The bill cleared an unlikely legislative hurdle Wednesday. Republican state Rep. David Simpson of Longview argues marijuana comes from God and therefore shouldn't be banned by government. The tea party stalwart has repeatedly championed what he calls the "Christian case" for legalization. Simpson's bill languished for weeks before the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Three committee Democrats and two Republicans surprisingly voted to support it Wednesday, though, and it passed 5-2. That makes Simpson's bill eligible for consideration to reach the House floor before the legislative session ends June 1.
http://www.click2houston.com/news/texas-house-committee-oks-full-marijuana-legalization-bill/32861194 Well that was unexpected. Not a lot of times I use the Bible to back up my opinions, but... Genesis 1:29 "Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."" I will do as it says and use every seed he has given us and consume the plants and fruit they produce as I see fit.
Let's go Texas! Too bad the other reps will probably not support it when it gets voted on. Ohio on the other hand is expected to legalize in November
But marijuana isn't food. Anyways, its nice to see more states legalizing.
It can be eaten, so it can be considered food
But marijuana isn't food. Anyways, its nice to see more states legalizing.
I'm sorry, but the plant has vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It's food.
But marijuana isn't food. Anyways, its nice to see more states legalizing.
someone hasn't eaten magic brownies
Weed has always been one of the few things that keeps me from going full Atheist. Just so much good that can come from one plant (not saying it solves all problems, but it sure as fuck helps some good ones).
Let's go Texas! Too bad the other reps will probably not support it when it gets voted on. Ohio on the other hand is expected to legalize in November
But if they vote against it they'll be voting against God!
But marijuana isn't food. Anyways, its nice to see more states legalizing.
I mean technically you can eat it. Probably wouldnt taste very good, but you absolutely could do it. Also edibles :v:
Wait, using the Christian excuse of "God made it" actually worked in Texas to possibly allow recreational cannabis? No fucking way. Edit: Why did no one do this years ago if it was this easy?
But if they vote against it they'll be voting against God!
You cannot petition the lord with cannabis prohibition!!
Well you can eat tons of stuff, but I wouldnt really say all the stuff is food.
But if they vote against it they'll be voting against God!
I'm pretty sure this should be the new basis for the legalization movement. It would work in this country anyway.
Thank You Tea Party Republicans
Well you can eat tons of stuff, but I wouldnt really say all the stuff is food.
How about as an ingredient then? I mean you wouldnt really eat straight tumeric but people would probably consider it a "food"
What about deadly nightshade, and the Manchineel?
The molecule "scopolamine" in nightshade is actually a commonly used medicine.
Maybe once Pence is pitched Indiana can have it too. Texas is certainly one of the last states I'd think would do it.
What about deadly nightshade, and the Manchineel?

... I will do as it says and use every seed he has given us and consume the plants and fruit they produce as I see fit.
I generally do not see poisonous plants fit to consume.
Well you can eat tons of stuff, but I wouldnt really say all the stuff is food.
That is like saying any herb you can cook with but wouldn't eat by itself isn't food.
Well damn, just after I moved from there. :(
Most states in the union are just refusing to legalize marijuana on medical grounds. You need to come forth and literally state you want to smoke it for recreational use, and you are willing to have taxes on it, and for the most part, all states will legalize it.
If this works, I demand gay marriage be legalized in Texas, because by that logic, God created both people and love, so the government has no place banning love between people. But if it works I know a few people who will party until dawn that they'll be able to smoke and not worry about drug tests.
What about deadly nightshade, and the Manchineel?
atropine from nightshade is vital to treating sarin poisoning
Uh huh, "God". Either they've been following God wrong all these years or they truly do worship The Almighty Dollar, and this surely has nothing to do with the loads of tax money Colorado and Washington are raking in.
Weed will be legal across America within our lifetimes.
More like 10 years at this rate.
well, you know what the bible said, if a man lays with another man, he should be stoned. getting stoned must be legal before they can legalize the gays
State laws cannot prohibit (at this time) what private companies test for in urine
But they could rule drug tests for cannabis an unacceptable violation of privacy except in cases where the prospective employee would be in a risky position (obviously don't make it illegal to drug test cops, doctors, security staff, construction workers driving skyscraper-building cranes in built-up metropolitan areas, truckers and any job where driving is the #1 activity, etc.), I imagine.
