Prime Minister David Cameron is to step down by October after the UK voted to leave the European Union.
Mr Cameron made the announcement in a statement outside Downing Street after the final result was announced.
He said he would attempt to "steady the ship" over the coming weeks and months but that "fresh leadership" was needed.
The PM had urged the country to vote Remain, warning of economic and security consequences of an exit, but the UK voted to Leave by 52% to 48%.
Mod could update the title maybe?
Technically he's still in for 3 months, I think
He hasn't resigned, he's going to resign in later months.
Oh fuck, don't take this as a good sign - Cameron was a snake but there are deadlier vipers in the pit.
Pray that someone better than him replaces him.
He is handing in his notice
ding dong the witch is dead?
Great job, fuck up the country for the current/next generation and then resign, probably leaving Boris in charge.
A++
Well. Em... Huh? Welp. This is something to wake up to.
I guess really the only reason to vote against staying is to vote out of spite against whatever David, should had campaigned to leave, you might had got reverse sociology to work.

Then I guess the world is now more unstable.
Nigel Farage, the Ukip leader, told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "My feeling is the Prime Minister could have risen up to the fray. He chose not to, I think he probably has to go. I think we have to have a Brexit Prime Minister."
How does resignation of a prime minister work in Europe? Does someone from the conservative party place them or does there have to be reelections?
Un-fucking believable.
This has been one helluva day.
You guys ready for PM Johnson?

I thought he would resign if Remain won, or that's what I heard
This is an absolute disaster.
I can't believe Cameron was a remain protagonist during this whole mess. Whoever we get to replace him will be privitization mad...
What even is British politics now? Complete realignment overnight.
ding dong the witch is dead?
Not good when all that's left to replace the witch are demons.
Well, if that's your political persuasion.
This whole deal is reminding me so much of Pericles funeral oration.
am i dead?
Pray that an incompetent idiot replaces him and implodes the Tories.
I rather there be a good conservative prime minister for the next 4 years, rather than a shit one and a higher chance for there to be a better ruling party.
Pick ur fav pro-Leave Tory MP, cus that's our next Prime Minister

There may very possibly be a coup against Corbyn now as well
The guy isn't deserving of PM if he's just going to up and quit because the vote didn't go his way. He won't help his people through this time and will instead quit. Nice.
How much does it cost to move to the canada

i don't really blame him. he would have had more pressure to quit if he stayed on, and now it's not his mess to deal with either

But that's exactly why he's resigning in 3 months, so he can get some kind of stability for the country and then hand over to someone else who actually wanted this for the transition out the EU.
Makes sense to me, just as long as it isn't that dangerous twat Boris

I kind of expected him to resign after this. Didn't he mainly agree to hold a referendum on the EU mainly to get the UKIPers to shut the hell up? He probably did not expect to have the UK actually leave the EU.
Didn't the UK put some law that said elections only come every five years? Or can an early election be called?

Its not as simple as that he cannot control his party anymore
am i dead?
I might as well now be.
What happens if there's an early election and the Tories don't win
Britain will get Boris the animal, and the US gets Trump or Hillary.
Amazing things going on this year.
